We had the good fortune of connecting with Kelly Fowble and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kelly, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
As a small business owner who’s also a work from home, stay-at-home mom, balance is key! I started The Thrifty Handmade when I was 39 weeks pregnant with my second baby. My oldest was two years old. From baby wearing at markets to pushing a double stroller through thrift stores, my girls have been part of my business from the start. I’ve learned that finding a balance also means going at my own pace. I dream of opening a storefront one day, but being a mom will always come first!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
From handmade fiber art to secondhand clothing, you’ll find pieces that express my love for motherhood and neutral style. Every purchase and word of encouragement supports me as a mom whose hobby has turned into a small business. Building my brand has taken consistency and hard work, but most of all, it’s taken authenticity. When bringing new products and clothing to my shop, I always think to myself: “Do what feels like home.” I hope that you’ll join me in the small business community while inspiring others to shop secondhand before buying new.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The perfect day in LA starts at a trendy coffee shop!

Sifting through as many local thrift stores as possible is next on the itinerary.

You can’t go wrong with lunch at Alfalfa or a sweet treat at Uba Tuba.

The Malibu Café and Santa Monica Beach are a must!

Not to mention Rodeo Drive is the perfect spot to be a tourist for the day.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
A special thank you to:

My friends and family for supporting me along the way

Ashley, from Amarieacreates, who has shown me the ins and outs of being a small business owner from the very beginning
