We had the good fortune of connecting with Jason Lally and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jason, what’s one piece of conventional advice that you disagree with?
Slow and steady wins the race. Art thrives on exploration and spontaneity. Don’t be afraid to go fast and get messy in the beginning—chaos often leads to unexpected, amazing results. Comfort can lead to complacency, so push yourself to stay challenged. Once you have something to work with, you can refine it slowly and steadily to shape it into what you envision.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I love discussing Lady in the Moon, a musical I co-created with Patrick Burns. It tells the story of Josh, a young man from foster care, on his journey to healing and connection. Set in a city like Los Angeles in the early 2000s, Josh and Allison, two people from different backgrounds, form a special bond despite complications that challenge their relationship. The story explores themes of anxiety, loss, faith, and the power of individuals to overcome obstacles and shape their lives.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If you’re visiting LA, skip Hollywood Blvd (unless you’re going to the Pantages) and avoid Venice Beach, Santa Monica Pier, and Rodeo Drive. For a classic tourist experience, go to the original Disneyland.

Knott’s Berry Farm, once a berry farm, has cool old buildings and rides.

For Broadway, check out the Pantages or Ahmanson Theatre in DTLA. DTLA is cool but can be sketchy at night, so know where you’re going and consider paying for parking. For regional theatre, visit Whitefire in Sherman Oaks.

For live music, check out The Belasco, Teragram Ballroom, and Regent Theatre in DTLA, or head to the Hollywood Palladium, Roxy, and Troubadour for a nostalgic vibe.
For a cool day trip, visit the Valley Relics Museum, open Saturday and Sunday from 10-3 p.m. While you’re in the area, grab some amazing food at Aye Papa Qué Rico or fresh pasta at Lido’s!
