Meet Josueños | Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Josueños and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Josueños, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Growing up I think we all draw to certain creative outlets even if we don’t recognize it off rip. As a kid I was always singing, never equated it to being a career path but rather found myself first year in college realizing I wanted to spend all time doing music and creating it with people that also had a genuine love for. Soon as I came to that I moved and got to pursuing a life of music, however that looked.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
For me art is about the spirit. Not simply for how it can impact the spirit of the consumer but also art is often the truest projection of what we truly feel on a spiritual level, even if we don’t have the words to sit and talk about it or communicate it. Often times art, being expression, is that door way for our spirit to simply free itself!
That said I’d say I got to where I am currently by being honest with my emotions and feelings during my creative process. Allowing a mic to capture those emotions. At times this has and will continue to be easier/harder than others. Sometimes you want to pour your heart out and sometimes you don’t feel you have much to say. Of course determination and drive play a role here as you won’t always “feel” like recording or creating on spot but having the discipline to do so can be vital for the long run.
Once we hit record you hear what i feel. Generally a lot of that depends on the type of song I’m recording but recording generally feels like I’m dreaming. My dream was always to make music, so often times I feel I’m living just that by simply recording and I think that can be heard in my music, regardless of what emotions are being directly conveyed.
All things come with their challenges and creativity is no different. Sometimes you question your art or things about it, the safety of your art, there a lot to consider and be challenged by but end of the day I’ve learned to always come back to one point. God grants us all gifts for the purpose of touching other lives for the better. Struggles will present themselves, but if you’re gifted (which I guarantee in your own unique way, you are), keep giving from that source because you don’t know who needs what you’re holding on to.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
A trip to LA is going to look like a lot of food and nature. You land hungry early afternoon we’re probably going to ktown for kbbq. After that it’s the observatory. If you want to see the city, you’ll see it all from up there, and that city skyline as and after the sun sets. Never gets old.
Next day it’s a late morning hike depending on the heat followed by a snack and then the beach! Whether we want more of the California culture in Venice or just a casual beach day at like dockweiler or hermosa, the beach will claim at least a day. Tacos after will always be a play because the way they hit after laying in the sun and possibly swimming around. And if it’s taco Tuesday forget about it! We’d have to make a day for enjoying for enjoying strips and the eclectic shops you see along them. Larchmont, melrose, even West Hollywood offer such pleasant areas to explore and potentially grab miscellaneous clothing and snacks. One of which will be salt n straw! Best ice cream hands down. Would love a scoop now that I’m thinking about it, but I digress lol. While it can be skipped depending on how invested someone is in Hollywood we can hit the walk of fame. The area can be super busy but isn’t a bad place to explore. We gotta hit little Tokyo. Aside from grabbing some bomb ramen for dinner, we’d have to end the night at EightyTwo an amazing arcade in the area. All this planning has me ready for company. Yall feel free to come visit and we will have a blast.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My biggest shoutout will always be God.
Over and over again I find myself inspired to create just based off of Gods creativity that I’m able to observe and experience on the day to day. The stars, the ocean, the sun, nature. To us these are habitats but at some point was just a figment of the creators imagination. The thought leaves me in awe.
Shoutout to Eddie Atom, not just an amazing multi-instrumentalist but also also a supportive brother and favorite to collaborate with.
Also shoutout to M_Boogs.
An amazing lyricist and Dj but also one of the biggest encouragers and supporters of my personal art. My brother has shown up without fail throughout the years to check up on my progress, ask questions, make sure I’m not even considering giving up. Shoutout my Mengs <3
Lastly for a solid book reference I would say ‘the artist’s way’ by Julia Cameron.
An excellent book that helps translate the communication between our emotions and spirit and our creativity. An eye opener for any artist.
