Meet Nekaya Carter

Today we’re excited to be connecting with Nekaya Carter again. If you haven’t already, we suggest you check out our prior conversation with them here.
Nekaya, we are so thrilled to be connecting again and can’t wait to hear about all the amazing things you have been up to. Before we jump into all of that, some of our readers might have missed our prior interview, so can you take a moment to reintroduce yourself?
I’m Nekaya Carter, a Real Estate and Mortgage Broker, entrepreneur, and nonprofit founder with over 18 years of experience in the industry. As the President of the Long Beach Realtist Association and the owner of Carter and Carter Inc., one of the few Black woman-owned real estate and mortgage brokerages in California, I am committed to expanding homeownership opportunities and empowering professionals in the industry.
What sets me apart is my dedication to both business and community. Through my brokerage, I mentor and support real estate professionals while helping clients navigate homeownership and real estate investments. Beyond that, my nonprofit, 2.18 Vision, provides grief support for women, particularly daughters who have lost their fathers, and hosts empowerment events like Women Elevating Women.
My journey has been about leadership, advocacy, and impact. From running my brokerage to leading one of the fastest-growing Realtist chapters in California, my focus has always been on creating opportunities, strengthening communities and making homeownership more accessible—especially for those who have historically been left out of the conversation. My mission is to educate, elevate, and empower in everything I do.

Awesome, so we reached out because we wanted to hear all about what you have been up to since we last connected.
Since our last conversation, things have been moving fast, and I’m excited about everything unfolding! One of the biggest updates is that I am now the President of the Long Beach Realtist Association. Over the past year, our chapter has grown significantly, becoming one of the largest in California. We’ve hosted over 40 events, helped real estate professionals build their businesses, and connected hundreds of people in the industry. I’m proud of the work we’re doing to create more homeownership opportunities and strengthen our community.
On the business side, Carter and Carter Inc. continues to thrive. I’ve been focused on mentoring and expanding our team, ensuring that real estate professionals have the resources and support they need to succeed. I’ve also been working on new strategies to educate potential homebuyers, particularly first-time buyers who might feel overwhelmed or unsure of where to start. Seeing more people take that step toward homeownership has been incredibly rewarding.
With my nonprofit, 2.18 Vision, we recently completed a powerful grief support program for women who have lost their fathers. The final event honored the women who participated, along with the professionals and volunteers who supported them. It was a deeply moving experience, and I’m looking forward to expanding our reach and impact in the future.
There have, of course, been challenges—balancing everything, navigating market shifts, and making sure I’m always showing up as a leader. But through it all, I’m excited about what’s next. I’m looking forward to growing our Realtist chapter, continuing to empower others through real estate, and making a lasting impact in both business and community.

What do you want people to remember about you and your brand? What are some of things that you feel are most important, unique, special, etc?
I want people to remember that my brand is built on impact, integrity and empowerment. Whether it’s through real estate, leadership or community work, my goal has always been to create opportunities and open doors for others. I want to be known as someone who not only helps people achieve homeownership but also elevates and supports professionals in this industry—especially those who have been historically underrepresented.
What makes my brand unique is the combination of business and purpose. Carter and Carter Inc. isn’t just about transactions; it’s about transformation—helping people build wealth, create stability and see real estate as a tool for generational success. As President of the Long Beach Realtist Association, I am committed to advocacy, education, and ensuring that our community has access to resources and opportunities in real estate.
With 2.18 Vision, my work is deeply personal. Losing my father shaped who I am, and I want to be a source of support for women on their grief journey. The ability to create spaces where women feel seen, heard, and uplifted is something I take great pride in.
At the end of the day, I want my legacy to be about educating, elevating and empowering others. Whether it’s through homeownership, business, or healing, I want people to walk away from any interaction with me feeling more informed, inspired and equipped to take their next step.
