We had the good fortune of connecting with Nekaya Carter and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nekaya, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Since living in and through a pandemic, work life balance has become top priority! It’s so easy to just hop on a Zoom, zone out, put yourself on mute, shut the video off, turn on Netflix, let the kids eat how often they like, go to sleep at whatever time they fall asleep, respond to emails in the middle of the night, not maintain a schedule, etc. With the addition of the civil unrest, it’s become even harder to focus beyond professionally, but emotionally and mentally. I am a black woman. I am the mother of two black sons. It’s frightening, it’s unpredictable, but nonetheless my reality. Everyone’s reality. I have been thankful to live another day. This is how my balance has changed. I’ve had to redirect my own thoughts, feelings, emotions and literally walk by faith. I will say that I have pushed through the pandemic with adjustment, commitment, consistency, a great team and a fantastic support system. My daughter has started middle school. So now I am a TA (not the teacher lol) as well – let’s add that to the balancing act.
What should our readers know about your business?
We Educate. We Elevate. We Empower. At Carter & Carter Investments, we specialize in educating you on the step-by-step process of homeownership. We setup a consultation with you and explain to you what we need to do to attain your goal of becoming a homeowner. We then equip you with the tools and resources you need to elevate into the mindset of becoming a homeowner. You leave the transaction empowered and of course with the set of keys to YOUR new home. After all you are already paying a mortgage, let’s make it your own!
Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
During the pandemic: 1. Bossa Nova 2. Wine Tasting in Santa Barbara or Temecula 3. Malibu Wine Safari 4. The Beachs (ALL of them!) – Newport, Manhattan, Hermosa, Redondo, Laguna, Santa Monica 5. Hollywood Blvd 6. Shopping – all the outdoor malls 7. San Diego
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shoutout is none other than my Women Elevating Women team! They are all amazing and irreplaceable in this vision! I was scheduled to have the in person event on March 21, 2020. It of course had to be postponed 🙁 I was not convinced that this event was something that could be successful in a virtual space. It took MONTHS of conversations, emails and calls for me to conform. I am proud and happy to say that we executed the very first virtual Women Elevating Women: A Day of Health, Wealth & Empowerment event and it was a major SUCCESS! Thank you so much to my team who listened, encouraged and pushed me to keep it pushin’ – Candice, Sasha, Michelle, Rocsii, Tabitha, Natalie, Veronica and Daphney – love you Ladies and Thank You!
