Meet Will Lim

Today we’re excited to be connecting with Will Lim again. If you haven’t already, we suggest you check out our prior conversation with them here.
Will, thanks for joining us again. Just to level set a bit for folks who may have missed our last interview together, can you briefly introduce yourself?
My name is Will, I am an animator based in Southern California. I work as a facial motion capture animator. I’ve been working as an animator since 2010 and I’ve worked in video games and movies. I used to work at Disneyland as a face painter and now I am a lead animator working at a software company.

Alright, so our main goal today is to give our audience an update on what you have been up to since our last conversation. We’d love to hear how things are going and what you are most looking forward to or excited about these days.
Since we last had our interview, I’ve hopped over a couple of jobs. After my stint at indie game development, I got hired on as a Facial Animator at ScanlineVFX, I worked on a few movies and tv shows, all of which were dream projects to me. I got to work on some of the coolest IPs that I have been a fan of since I was a kid. I couldn’t be more proud of the work I did there. I have updated my demo reel that shows a lot of the work that I did.
Unfortunately, due to the SAG-Aftra Strike, I was laid off, which made sense since no projects were coming in. And I supported everyone who went on strike, since everyone needs a fair deal and needs to get paid for their work and AI really needs to be reined in a lot.
It was a tough 6 months but I did land a job at a software company called Faceware. Which is the software I was using at my previous job, so that worked out. I’ve been there ever since.
As for new things, I’ve been working on some personal projects that I want to make some progress on this year. I don’t want to talk about it too much just yet, since it’s still in the early stages, but I’m hoping to get more personal artwork done this year.
We have now arrived at one of our favorite parts of the interview – the lightning round. We’ll ask you a few quick questions to give us all some fun insights about you.

When you look back on your life, what are three things you expect to be proud of?
I think about this a lot, I’ve experienced a lot of family deaths in recent years and I have thought about this extensively. I think I would be really proud of the friendships and bonds that I have made, knowing that I have left any type of impact whether it be positive or negative, hopefully mostly positive. I would also be proud of the life I have lived, because I know that I have always tried to give my best each day and I believe that is enough. Lastly, I believe that the work I have contributed in movies and games, I will forever be proud of, even if some of them won’t last the test of time. I know that in some way it has added to the human experience.
