We had the good fortune of connecting with Fiona Hillery and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Fiona, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I actually never set out to start a business—Esoteric Empowerment unfolded naturally! I had been quietly practicing intuitive arts for years while working in media. As I began sharing more with colleagues and offering friendly readings, word of mouth took off. My boss was incredibly supportive and encouraged me to own my voice publicly, writing spiritual articles, horoscopes and facilitating events. So when the pandemic hit and demand accelerated, I already had a firm foundation. And what started as a side passion quickly became a soul-led path.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Esoteric Empowerment is all about grounding the mystical into the practical—merging over a decade of experience in brand and business strategy with intuitive tools like astrology, tarot, and energetics. What sets my practice apart is that I speak both languages fluently: the spiritual and the corporate. I’ve worked with hundreds of C-level executives who’ve found real clarity, confidence, and strategy through this fusion.

It hasn’t always been easy. One of my biggest challenges was overcoming imposter syndrome and the stigma around intuitive work. When I went public with my practice, I faced criticism from close minded acquaintances—but I’ve learned that being a pioneer means being polarizing. The real growth came when I stopped shrinking to fit others’ comfort zones and started trusting the results I was witnessing in my clients’ lives and businesses. This work is deeply personal and deeply impactful—and I’m proud to help bridge worlds for those ready to lead with both heart and vision.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My favorite practice is a “soft sunday” where I turn off all electronics and experience all the nature, art and culture LA has to offer.

I’d likely start at a local farmers market -the closest one to me in Marina Del Rey has great organic produce and artisan craftsmanship. We could then take a hike, or kayak with sea lions if we’re feeling adventurous.

After a sweat sesh we could indulge in a little self care at one of the west side day spas- like Into Me Sea where you can bathe in amethyst crystal tub or Reality Center- where you can reprogram neuropathways with light sound vibrational therapy. LA is such a pioneer in the wellness industry, so there’s really unique modalities here that you can’t find anywhere else.

Late afternoon would be all about ecstatic dance on Venice Beach. A group of hundreds meets every sunday and dances to live dj set. It’s really special!

We’d grab dinner at Butcher’s Daughter on Abbot Kinney, where there’s farm to table dining and gluten free options. The famous shopping street also has boutique crystal stores, like Made in Earth where you can buy unique pieces.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I owe a deep shoutout to a few key guides and collaborators. Natalie Clark, a Glastonbury-trained reader, was instrumental in mentoring me in the tarot arts early on. Paul Weinfield, a brilliant life coach, helped me navigate one of the most transformative chapters of my life. And I’m endlessly grateful to clients like HigherDOSE, Kinema, and Equinox who recognized the value of integrating intuition with business strategy—supporting not just individual growth, but team and executive development as well.
