Meet Sidney Thomas

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sidney Thomas and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sidney, how do you think about risk?
I think that taking calculated risks are not only exciting, but can also open us up to new opportunities and whether the risk taken results in success or not, there’s always a lesson to be learned. The risks I’ve taken have often involved relocating and switching jobs/careers at the same time. I’ve uprooted myself 4 times, once without having a job lined up. Each of these moves have given me the opportunity to grow, learn new skills, meet new people, and certainly challenge myself. There’s also one move that I did in the past where I ended up not liking the new city at all. I wasn’t happy there and didn’t connect with the people. However looking back, that experience provided a lot of time for self reflection, and learning how to be more appreciative of existing relationships and small joys in life.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve work in healthcare data analytics for most of my career, and also work as a real estate agent/investor. It was (and is) challenging to meet my career goals. When things get overwhelming, I remind myself to slow down, breath and take it one day at a time, one task at a time, and when needed, one minute at a time. I also believe it’s super important to get some down time to enjoy family and friends, nature, quiet time, meditation/prayer, and other random ways to rest and recharge.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I like to tell people that I live in this huge urban area, and spend 80% of my free time in the woods. I love nature and and hiking is my absolute favorite hobby. SoCal has so much natural beauty! So I always take my visitors to enjoy a trail or park in the area – Griffith Park is often the choice. Of course our city has so much else to offer – so I also take visitors on a tour of the neighborhoods (Hollywood, DTLA, Inglewood, West Hollywood, etc). And then we eat – Korean BBQ in K-Town and tacos from food stands are some of my go-to’s – I think those are real stand-out uniquely LA, and yummy meals.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My Mom! The one who’s been there for me since day one, shows relentless love and encouragement, and no matter how old I get – still worries way too much about me, lol.
