We had the good fortune of connecting with Natasha Hundreds and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Natasha, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I think there’s something truly unique about being an artist—especially in my case, as a drag artist! Drag is such a fascinating discipline because it blends several art forms into one. In a single performance, you might see elements of theater, painting, design, and dance, all filtered through the lens of the performer. As someone who loves exploring different creative outlets, I find that incredibly appealing.

There’s also the performance aspect, which is just as powerful. If you’ve never been to a drag show, I highly encourage you to attend one! You’ll witness firsthand how the performer’s energy radiates into the audience, creating a joyful and electric atmosphere. I’ve found a deep sense of purpose in that. In a world filled with so much dread and bad news, I feel grateful to help spread joy through my performance—even if it’s just for four minutes.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My drag name is Natasha Hundreds! I’m a drag queen and content creator who has been performing across Southern California since 2018. In 2022, I expanded my artistry into the world of social media. I like to describe my drag as playful, spicy, and vibrant. My performances feature well-tailored outfits—designed and made entirely by me—paired with creative uses of music and viral sounds to create a full sensory experience.

On TikTok, I dedicate my platform to educating people about the behind-the-scenes of drag. I share tips and insights for those who are curious or interested in exploring drag themselves.

Standing out in today’s saturated drag scene can be tough. But I believe I’ve carved out my space by showing up authentically—both on stage and online. Many drag performers feel the need to adopt a sassy, ditzy, or over-the-top persona to be well received. While that can be fun, I’ve found that people truly connect when they get to know the human beneath the makeup and glitter.

As much fun as this journey has been, it hasn’t always been easy. Like many artists, I’ve had to juggle my creative pursuits with a day job to make ends meet. I’m grateful for that stability, but balancing work and art can be incredibly demanding. There were times I’d wake up at 5 a.m. to finish a costume, work from 8 to 5, then get ready for a show at 9 p.m.—only to return home at 1 a.m. and do it all over again the next day.

Beyond the logistical challenges, one of the biggest hurdles I faced was internal. Growing up in a traditional Mexican household, I was raised with a very rigid idea of masculinity. Even as a gay man, I felt pressure to maintain a masculine exterior. Exploring drag and playing with gender roles was intimidating at first, but I knew it was something I needed to try. Over time, it became not just a creative outlet, but a powerful way to express the queerness within me.

I’ve learned so many lessons along the way. One of the most important is the value of consistency. Art is a journey, and the best way to grow is to keep creating. It doesn’t have to be perfect—each piece gives us practice and perspective. Another key lesson is to create for yourself. As a people pleaser, I used to craft performances just to satisfy the audience. But I’ve realized that when we create from the heart, we unlock our full potential and tap into our deepest creativity.

I want the world to know that I love what I do. I wear my culture proudly, and I bring that spirit to every performance. If you come to one of my shows, you can expect to laugh, enjoy fabulous performances, and—most importantly—feel right at home.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to dedicate this shoutout to my incredible community in Long Beach, CA! Ever since I moved here nine years ago, I’ve felt completely at home. This community has played a crucial role in my growth and blossoming as an artist, and I’m endlessly grateful for their support. I also want to give a special thank you to my number one fan—my husband. Your love and encouragement mean the world to me.
