Meet James M. Perry | Writer & Director

We had the good fortune of connecting with James M. Perry and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi James M., what role has risk played in your life or career?
Taking the plunge to invest in myself was a bold step, but leaving my 9-to-5 job to chase my dreams? That was the biggest leap of all. It wasn’t just about the stability of a regular paycheck; it was about the freedom I craved to network and unleash my creativity. Embracing entrepreneurship has been my personal game-changer. As a director and writer, I thrive on the ability to draw inspiration from any place and every moment. This journey enables me to explore my passions, wherever I may find myself fully.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
What truly sets us apart is our refusal to box ourselves in, both creatively and professionally. Beyond crafting captivating narrative projects, we thrive on collaboration with various companies, embracing diverse opportunities that allow us to innovate and grow together.
While it may not be easy, that’s precisely the challenge! After all, nothing truly great comes without a bit of effort. But here’s the exciting part: the journey can be fun, filled with interesting twists and boundless creativity. One of our key aspirations is to scale up and embrace this adventure together!
I want the world to know that you can achieve anything you set your mind to if you stay focused. I was born in Baltimore, Maryland, and through hard work, I have been able to pursue my passions in various cities, states, and countries. Because of that same dedication, I am here today speaking in this interview for people like all of us.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
In my hometown, there are several places you would enjoy. Start your day with a delicious brunch at Illusions Restaurant and Bar. Later in the evening, I recommend visiting The Royal Blue, a lovely cocktail bar and restaurant suggested by my friend Akio Evans. They offer great food, happy hour specials, and a nice lounge with a dance floor for you to enjoy. For a fun outing with friends, you can also visit Topgolf, where you’ll find a friendly atmosphere. Additionally, there are various casinos to explore, including MGM in Washington, D.C., and Maryland Live.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would attribute my journey to multiple people who played significant roles along the way. Starting with my first film as a writer and director, I want to thank my friend and brother, David Kenneth Sommerville. Filmmaker Jared Noe and actress Nicolette Ellis, who starred in my first film, also made a major impact, particularly during my first festival screening in New York City.
Fast forward to the cast and crew of my first viral film, “Feels Like Euphoria,” which has now reached 5 million views on YouTube. Artist and creator Akio Evans has always been a source of support, along with many others I could mention. To avoid leaving anyone out, I’ll focus on the cast and crew of my latest film, “Veils of Anonymity.” I am grateful to actors Melissa Michelle Jones and Mike Dzicek for trusting my vision, as well as the crew members, including Terrence Jackson, my co-producer Jacqueline Rachel Ward, and makeup artist Arianna David.
Currently, “Veils of Anonymity” is in submission to multiple film festivals. I look forward to people experiencing the film and having fun, just as we did while creating it.
