We had the good fortune of connecting with Amanda Litzinger and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amanda, how do you think about risk?
Risk is an interesting topic for me. I’m frequently admired for being a risk taker, but I believe there’s actually more at stake when playing it safe vs. going after what you want. I’ve always been into self help/ entrepreneurship and one concept I learned about when first getting started is opportunity cost. Opportunity cost is the value of what you give up when you make a decision, wether that’s time, money, or other resources. It means being in a situation you don’t love could cost you the opportunity to be in a situation you do love. For me, choosing the opportunity everyday to pursue success in my brand involves far less risk than not doing it.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I was privileged to have grown up around the arts, I was a dancer, played piano and enjoyed going to theatre shows with my family. I studied fine art in college and even before then I always felt a little edge around me. As a dancer I was not gifted with the best technique naturally, but I loved being in the trance of disciplined movement and always attracted eyes on me and enjoyed a lot of success with it. I guess I consider myself an under-dog who doesn’t accept readily accept what is given to me, I’m more comfortable pushing back and creating a situation that feels most right. That’s kind of what art and clothing design represent, artists and designers don’t accept what already exists, instead we propose something different and new that challenges and excites. I sometimes think it would be an easier life to be someone who goes with the flow of things, but I was predestined to be a disruptor. I’ve learned to listen to the call and provide love for it.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My perfect day in the city starts with a hike on the beautiful Griffith Park followed by a magical caffeinated beverage from Moon Juice. Then I would check out what is showing at the Gagosian Gallery in Beverly Hills, followed by an authentic Italian sandwich from Cheese Shop. That evening I would take a local drink at cafe Stella before heading to dinner at the super authentic and just so delightful Musso & Frank. I forgot to squeeze in a pool-side nap at the Chateau Marmont. To die for.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My shoutout belongs to my family! I am the middle daughter of three in a family of loud, proud Mexican/Italian Americans. Without the support and love of my family, cheering me on and providing me with resources from books to read, opportunity to travel and confidence to shamelessly be myself, I absolutely would not be where I am today.
