Meet David Powers | Owner – Powers Records

We had the good fortune of connecting with David Powers and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi David, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I was in the mortgage industry for over 40 years. Looking to retire in the near future, I contacted one of the marketing gurus from the Upland Chamber of Commerce and he quickly put together a website that would enhance my business model.
I was in the music industry in the late 70’s. The collection I acquired from the contacts I made contributed to an incredible
Portfolio through the years.
I opened my eBay site in February 2021 and it’s been growing ever since.
The wonderful people I encountered enabled me to buy and sell their collections.
One requirement I have to my clients, if a particular item brings in higher revenue I will split the profits with them.
This is a wonderful opportunity for the client to obtain additional money when they don’t know what to do with their collections.
I gave myself the ultimate birthday gift June 30, 2023 retirement.
I’m so delighted I did, I’m having the time of my life.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
In school I loved mathematics. Numbers, money were high on the list. I started my career in the financial industry. I landed my first job in 1980 with Transamerica Financial.
From there I became a mortgage broker on Ventura Blvd. Van Nuys California.
I moved to a company that would change my life in a big way. Plaza Home Mortgage. National SVP responsible for 18 branches nationwide.
A 10 year career run, our CEO sold the company to Fleet Mortgage in 1995.
What I admire most about this industry is the number of families we were able to provide home ownership.
Along with great rewards comes a high level of stress. To keep myself in the guardrails without loosing my cool is to have coaches. Darren Hardy, Tony Robbin’s, Todd Duncan, Bill Sparkmen, Sir Kaya Redford, Barry Habib to name a few.
There was an NLP Practitioner course that did a major shift in my belief system. Using these techniques. propelled my business to a whole new paradigm.
