Meet Dimple Kaur | Dancing Psychologist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Dimple Kaur and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dimple, what’s the most important thing you’ve done for your children?
Communication and Trust. I by the time I had my second child, I had realised that parenting methods will have to change. I kept two hours of my time to just sit and listen to them and allowed them to express and share their thoughts and feelings. I would take them along with me on my work trips when time allowed which enabled them to imbibe work ethics and importance of hard work.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a Dancing Psychologist – Somatic Dance Movement Educator. I am super proud of being one of the pioneers in integrating the science of psychology with the ancient art Natya – the ancient Indian dance theatre. I call the pedagogy – Applied Natya Therapy.
Was it easy – Not at all. The journey was difficult, but what kept me going was the belief in my work and the process. The big mantra was the word ‘Despite”- to learn to move ahead Despite the obstacles and the cynicism.
The big lesson that I learnt was that All work Takes Time and not everyone will move with you for that time. You learn to move with support and then you learn to move and keep doing your work Alone!
What I want the world to know is this: dance is not just an art-it’s a form of therapy.
I believe that movement has the power to heal. Not metaphorically, but tangibly. Through my work and my brand, I’m committed to showing how dance can be applied intentionally to help people navigate emotional pain, manage psychological challenges, and reconnect with themselves in ways that traditional talk therapy sometimes can’t reach.
My brand is built on Applied Natya Therapy, a structured program that merges classical Indian dance with therapeutic frameworks. It’s grounded in empirical research, not just tradition or intuition. It uses elements like expressive storytelling (abhinaya), rhythm, posture, and gesture, not to perform, but to process and to heal.
This work is deeply personal and deeply human. I want the world to see that therapy doesn’t always have to be confined to words or couches. The body remembers, and through movement, it can also release. My mission is to bring this powerful approach to more people, more communities, and more places where healing is needed.
So if you ask me what my brand stands for? It’s transformation through movement, through expression, and through culturally rooted therapeutic practice.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The community of artists has been super supportive in encouraging and motivating my productions. I would like to give a shout out to Janell Burgess, Artistic Director at Spectrum Dance Center.
