We had the good fortune of connecting with Lacie Wood and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lacie, we’d love to hear more about your end-goal, professionally.
If I can be in a place where I get to make people laugh and make a little money while doing it I’ll be happy. I’d absolutely love to be in a place where I can support myself on my creative ventures!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I started comedy because I love public speaking, but I have found the rigidity in “professionalism” hard to balance. I didn’t want to become a motivational speaker, but wanted a way to help people find joy. So I started going to open mics and found that being able to share vulnerable bits of my life in funny little stories was not only therapeutic but very fulfilling. Baring your soul and having people laugh WITH you is one of the best feelings ever!
It has not been an easy journey. I am neurodivergent with social anxiety, so I am the comedian in the corner of the green room or audience crocheting until my stage time. I don’t naturally flock to social gatherings or spaces, so I had to really put myself out there to network. It can also be hard to find the balance between whether or not other comedians are wanting real friendship or if they want that surface level peer relationship, so that has been challenging to navigate, but one thing I can always say is I have been myself the whole time. How other people interact with me is really not mine to worry about so long as I’m not doing harm, right?
In the end, I hope overall I am known for being consistent, diligent and kind. I have learned that is more important to me than what shows I am on or who I have worked with, and truly believe that being a kind dependable person gets you further than any one show or set.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
In my area (Salem Oregon) I would take them to Epilogue (for their tasting menu) and Noble Wave for food, then we would definitely need to hit up The Book Bin and the Freckled Bee (local stores) and then take a little dessert stop at On Any Sundae for ice cream and nostalgia!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to shout out Eleanor Ryan for being a hilarious, resilient person and a great friend! She is pure love!
