Meet SUCCUBUS | DJ, Model & Recording Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with SUCCUBUS and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi SUCCUBUS, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I think of risk as an absolute necessary tool in life! Without taking risks there would never be any sort of reward. My entire career has been based in taking risks and the best part about it is: all the failures I have been able to learn from and at least say, “Hey, I did that, tried it, didn’t work. Okay what’s next?” and become a better artist & person from them.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art will always be based in being black and trans, no doubt about it, no way around it. My main focus when it comes to my art at the moment is DJing, music production and recording my debut EP “Centerfold”. Stay tuned for that! Truthfully, I have gotten to where I am professionally by working extremely hard, being professional and staying consistent. Oh, It was definitely not an easy journey but it has been a very rewarding one. I have always been able to overcome my challenges in my career by knowing myself, knowing what I am capable of and doing that to the best of my capability. What I would like the world to know about me and my craft is that, I am the black, trans, alternative, punk, baddie representation the world is in dire need of.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My absolute favorite spots in the city would have to be downtown LA. Kiso, Precinct and Slipper Clutch is usually where you will find me throwing a**.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would absolutely have to dedicate my shoutout to my mother. She has been my #1 supporter since birth. Her love for me has never favored and any creative endeavor I have ever embarked on she has always been by my side screaming my name. I would also like to shout out all of my chosen family that have not only helped make all my dreams become reality but have been a huge emotional support system through it all. I wanna shout everyone out but we’ll be here all day lol.
