We had the good fortune of connecting with Harper Cullen and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Harper, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
Risk is the most exciting thing about life. For a long time taking risks was easy for me- I felt like I had nothing to lose. I sort of still feel this way, with every creative endeavor I sort of just think, Why not? Who cares? If it brings me joy and happiness-Fuck it all. I work in many different creative worlds. I love them all. Every day putting yourself out there is a risk! Showing your art is a risk. The risk is judgement. If you can let go of giving a shit about that, I feel you’ll be rockin and rolling pretty quickly.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started Shop Someday about a year and a half ago. I wasn’t sure what would come of it. I have been collecting vintage clothing since I was in highschool. I saw a photo online of this vintage 1930s circus performer costume and was totally inspired. I decided I wanted to make a brand that was sustainable, that will last so long you can pass down to their family members. I want it to seem vintage! I went to a friend who worked at a costume house and she helped me with the whole production side of things. I want my product to feel personal, unique, and special Each dress is made with vintage dead stock fabric. No one will have the same dress aside from very few special pieces. When you order a dress, your name will be embroidered in the back. It is literally tailored to your exact measurements. This has been such a financially draining process but I just want to sell something I know people will love. I don’t want to make it easy just because it will cost less money. I want to keep the integrity of the dress. I’ve learned these things take time. Nothing happens overnight and just keep going. My brand is called Shop Someday because I love old fairy tales and it feels really connected to my youth and what my dreams have been over the years as a child, a teen, and then later a young adult. It’s an ode to the little girl that lives deep within me. Shop Someday- like Someday my Prince will come. But Shop Someday girls don’t need a prince! Just a really cute custom dress!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Our first stop would be brunch at The Ivy. I honestly don’t love the food there-but the vibes are perfect. You can’t really go wrong with a coffee and eggs, right? After we would go to all of my favorite thirft shops. Starting with Trove in Westwood, then moving to Scout in West Hollywood then maybe Recess on La Brea. After, we would go to the Chateau for drinks and a little hang by the pool. After we get nice and tan we would make our way home to shower and freshen up. For dinner we would go to the Katsuya in Studio City and absolutely HAVE to order the popcorn shrimp. After dinner we woulf grab Go Greek down the street on ventura before we go to Cinespia, my fave event that goes on during the Summer. After Cinespia we would grab some drinks at Stir Crazy. The next day we would go to Korea town and go crazy at Palace Beauty. After that we would go to Olympic Spa for a relaxing spa day before we go out in the evening. After the spa we would go to Stud Country for queer line dancing! I can’t think of anything else! Ah!
