Meet Wynn | Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Wynn and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Wynn, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Before working for myself, I had the pleasure of being an artist’s assistant. It was an awesome job where I got to help out an incredibly talented oil painter. It showed me what being a full time artist looked like. If I could do this job for someone else, why not do it for myself?

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Wynn here! I am an acrylic painter. I would describe my art as candy coated depression and trauma. I found my creative spark early on within a family of artists. My journey led me to a fine art screen printing studio where I had the opportunity to apprentice under the guidance of artist John Miner. I had the pleasure of printing for amazing artists such as DabsMyla and Cleon Peterson. At that time I also began working as an artist assistant for the oil painter, Kelly Reemtsen. Working for these artists was wildly inspiring so I decided to venture out on my own. Leaving behind the grind of fine art screen printing was a leap of faith to pursue my own artistic journey. Despite battling depression, my art serves as a sanctuary for exploring uncomfortable themes. I find that the conversation my art brings helps others who are dealing with similar issues.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I feel so lucky to be born and raised in Los Angeles! There is so much to do here, but here are a few favorites. For art and culture, check out The Huntington Gardens, The Museum of Jurassic Technology, and the Bob Baker Marionette Theater. For food I love Ototo in Echo Park, Yang’s Kitchen in Alhambra, and Gold Burger in Highland Park. My favorite drinking holes are Benny Boy (especially when Sketch Party is hosting an event there), Walt’s, and Tonga Hut. As far as nightlife goes, I dig seeing live punk bands at places like Scribble or Permanent Records. All of these places have a great vibe and will make ya feel right at home.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I wouldn’t be where I am today without the support of local artist and screen printing teacher John Miner.
