Meet Costin Tuculescu | AgeTech Founder & Serial Tech Entrepreneur

We had the good fortune of connecting with Costin Tuculescu and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Costin, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
Supporting older adults is far more complex than most people realize. While it may seem like the end user is the older adult, the real decision-makers and influencers are part of a much broader ecosystem. You’re not just serving the senior—you’re serving their adult children who often act as caregivers, making decisions on their behalf. Then there are their healthcare providers, insurance plans and payers who are focused on clinical outcomes and cost reduction. Government agencies like local Area Agencies on Aging (AAAs) and state Offices for the Aging often support programs or services through funding or referrals. And organizations like AARP or other senior advocacy groups play a major role in shaping perception and adoption.
If your product or service doesn’t deliver value across this network—by saving time, improving health outcomes, reducing stress, or enabling better communication—it won’t succeed. It’s not enough to be helpful to just the older adult. To gain traction, you have to design for the entire circle of care.

What should our readers know about your business?
At ONSCREEN, we’re building technology that helps older adults stay connected, healthy, and independent. We started with something familiar—the TV—and transformed it into a powerful senior care hub with easy video calls, wellness check-ins, reminders, and even conversations with an AI companion named Joy. But we didn’t stop there. What began on the TV has grown into a comprehensive senior care platform—one that now spans TV, tablets, and phone, with our new service, Joy Calls. We’ve expanded our reach to meet older adults wherever they are, delivering personalized, meaningful support through the most accessible technologies available.
What sets us apart is our focus on simplicity and dignity. Most tech is built for the tech-savvy. We build for the people who are often left behind—seniors who may struggle with smartphones, apps, or remembering routines. And we don’t stop there—we also support the family caregivers who are often overwhelmed and underserved. ONSCREEN gives them peace of mind and a better way to care for their loved ones, even from a distance.
Getting here wasn’t easy. Our original product wasn’t even designed for seniors—it was a mainstream solution to help anyone make video calls on their TV. But we started noticing a surprising pattern: customers were buying it for their aging parents, many of whom had dementia. That unexpected insight changed everything. We leaned in hard and began focusing entirely on senior care. I didn’t come from a healthcare or aging background, but over the last four years, I’ve immersed myself in the world of dementia, caregiving, and aging in place to become an expert in the space. That journey led to one of our most important realizations: loneliness and isolation are among the biggest challenges older adults face today.
That led us to expand beyond just video calls. We introduced Joy, our AI companion, to help older adults stay engaged, supported, and on track with their daily routines—from medication reminders to hydration check-ins and friendly conversations. Joy also initiates conversations, tells jokes, plays games, and serves as a meaningful companion.
We’re now making companionship even more accessible with the launch of our newest product: Joy Calls. It enables Joy to connect with seniors directly on their home or mobile phones—no TV, tablet, or internet required. We have removed absolutely any technological barrier to keep older adults connected and supported. It’s a simple, effective way to bring comfort, connection, and consistency into someone’s life, no matter where they are.
If there’s one thing I want the world to know about our story, it’s this: aging doesn’t have to be lonely or difficult. And with the right tools, including thoughtful AI, we can make care more human, more accessible, and more connected for the people who raised us.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’ve lived in Orange County for the last 30 years or so, and there are some amazing spots to check out:
For an incredible steakhouse experience, try Mastro’s Ocean Club in Newport Beach.
For fun hipster vibes, Costa Mesa won’t let you down with great breweries and fun bars. There’s also an incredible steakhouse that my wife and I love — La Cave.
Another favorite spot for me is 2nd Street in Belmont Shores / Long Beach. There are tons of great restaurants and bars, and a good time is guaranteed!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Absolutely—I wouldn’t be where I am today without the unwavering support of my family. My wife, Lauren, has been a constant source of strength and encouragement through every entrepreneurial high and low. She’s believed in me even when things felt uncertain, and her patience and partnership have made all the difference.
I also have to shout out my parents, who immigrated to this country from Romania and worked incredibly hard to give me the opportunities they never had. The left everything behind, had to learn a new language, and a new way of life, to provide a better life for their children and future generations. Their hard work ethic and sacrifice laid the foundation for everything I’ve been able to pursue.
Professionally, I’ve been lucky to work alongside incredible mentors and peers throughout my journey—especially during my time at AnyMeeting, Intermedia, and now at ONSCREEN. At ONSCREEN, we’ve been incredibly fortunate to be accepted into some amazing organizations: the AARP AgeTech Collaborative, and the Volunteers of America Community Health Incubator — both are groups that deeply care about the wellbeing of our older adult population.
But the deepest inspiration comes from the older adults and family caregivers we serve. These caregivers are often the first to take a leap of faith—trying out new products that aren’t fully polished—simply because they want to support their parents in the best way possible. Their trust, courage, and love are the reason we exist — without them, we wouldn’t be here!
