Meet Vilda Ray | Artist & Producer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Vilda Ray and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Vilda, what do you want people to remember about you?
I want to be remembered as a woman who was unafraid to surrender to her art. Only a few people know how much I love to create and have seen my actual process. They’ve seen me celebrate, cry, and lose sleep for it, among other things. I hope they remember that that was extension of my true self. Someone who was as focused as she was curious.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I want listeners to know that my art is an extension of my heart. It is a reflection of how I feel, good or bad, and used for me to look back at myself from the outside. My music has helped me understand myself a bit better. It has pushed me to be honest with my feelings, and gain courage to say how I feel. Overcoming fear has been my biggest challenge so far. There were so many things that I wanted to pursue musically, but my fear was holding my creativity back. I came to a realization that I wasn’t doing myself justice, that I was stunting my own growth, and I would never excel as a musician if I didn’t encourage my own talents. I’ve learned that battling fear is a lifelong journey for all of us, but it can be conquered with determination and self love!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
All my friends love to eat, dance, and make music, so that’s what we’re gonna do! Pre-pandemic, we’d hit up The Short Stop in Echo Park for David Bowie vs Prince night (or whatever type of themed night they’re having). Definitely go record some music, I pride myself on having some of the most talented friends, so we gotta get creative together! Then I’d take them to T.O.T in Little Tokyo for some yummy Takoyaki and Katsudon!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Naidene Salgado is a friend who has always encouraged my growth as an artist. She has been my creative partner for over ten years now. Our friendship is based on an undying love of music, culture, and supporting each other’s endeavors. I wouldn’t know how to be an independent artist if it weren’t for her. I’ll always be grateful to have her in my life.
