Meet Eduardo Romeiro “Orelha” | Photographer & Videographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Eduardo Romeiro “Orelha” and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Eduardo, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I was born in Brazil, in Rio de Janeiro, and most of my family is made up of “artists.” My grandmother was a teacher and an amazing sketcher. My mom was always involved with art, and since I was a kid, I was encouraged to dive into this creative world and develop my skills.
My dad, on the other hand, always loved capturing our moments with photos and video. Back in 1996, when we took a trip to Disney, he bought a VHS camcorder (hahaha), and I got super excited — I wanted to use it for everything!
As the years went by, I moved more towards music — I had a band, played guitar and drums. However, during college, I took photography classes, fell even more in love with the art form, and decided to dive deeper into that world.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I believe all of our life experiences directly reflect back into our work — and photography is no different. Everything we live through spills into the images, whether those experiences are happy moments or not.
I don’t really think of myself as “different” from anyone else — it’s just that I’m able to express all of that through my work. I’ve had the chance to collaborate with some of the biggest artists in the Brazilian music scene, as well as with extraordinary colleagues in the industry. Today, I carry all of that background with me and translate it into my images.
Challenges are always going to be there — whether at the start of my career or now that things are more established. There’s always something new that comes up, and that pushes me to keep learning, stay focused, and remain sharp.
Every day I work so that the people impacted by my photos can look at them and say: *“I see you in this.”*

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
That would be so much fun hahaha!
I’d start by taking him to my grandmother’s house in Rio de Janeiro, where I used to spend my vacations — playing with my cousins and aunts, drawing, painting, and doing everything a kid on vacation could do.
Then we’d head to Belo Horizonte, where I spent much of my childhood. I’d stop at Praça do Papa, a place where my dad used to take me to fly kites — a really special memory for me. And since we’d be in BH, of course, we’d have to stop for some delicious *pão de queijo* from Minas! hahaha
To wrap it up, we’d go to São Paulo, the city where I basically grew into adulthood, where I lived the longest. I’d introduce him to my friends, take him to the clubs, restaurants, and show him the nightlife — something that’s so strong in the city and that I always enjoyed a lot!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
For sure, all the credit goes to my parents and my family! They’ve always encouraged me to follow the arts and, even more than that, to chase my dreams and work hard to achieve them.
My grandmother was always my driving force to keep going in photography, even if that path wasn’t the easiest one to take!
