We had the good fortune of connecting with Ingrid Giovanie and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ingrid, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I do nothing in this life but take risks. I wear my heart on my sleeve and bet on no one but myself, and I am always grateful anytime anyone considers me for their projects. Several of the roles I have participated in acting or songs I’ve sung on stage have been unconventional, taboo, or downright in-your-face. I find risk taking to be liberating. Many times, I get nervous before taking a risk, and each time I take it, I am glad I do. It helps me grow as an artist and as a human being.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a performing artist of all trades. I sing, dance, act (stage & film), do comedy, model (runway & print). I am most proud of just putting myself out there. I grew up in Boyle Heights living in a pension home starting at the age of five after my parents separated, and every tenant there was a mariachi. As difficult as my circumstances were growing up, thanks to my unconventional upbringing, my childhood was also filled with tons of color and light–especially film and music. It was an experience that I do not think many had. My family put food on the table by working as mariachis and still continue to do so.

I have been around performers since birth. I personally began singing in public at the age of 12, but singing publicly wasn’t consistent until last year. My band, 2% , began getting booked on the regular, and now I am here. I have also acted in countless YouTube series including “WandaVision on a Budget” and “Film Club: The Series.” I have also acted in theater, in short films, and feature films. Not a month goes by where I am not involved in performing. No days off!

I am also involved in spiritual coaching using astrology, Human Design, and manifestation.

Something I learned along the way was to have faith in myself. I grew up rather shy and meek, and all it did was isolate me from community. I want the world to know that all those moments you spend doubting yourself could be spent working on your craft and believing in yourself. If you’re often timid or even tend to have low self-esteem, it may take practice to do so, but it is work that needs to be done in order for you to get anywhere. It all begins with the SELF.

I am The Gio Experience. It is not only my craft, my art–it is my way of life. No other way.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I were taking my best friend out on the night of the town, I’d take them all over Los Angeles! Sunday would be spent cruising on the coast, eating at Lure Fish House.
Monday would be spent at the beach, any beach! (No crowds at noon)
Tuesday, we’d go hiking near the Hollywood Sign & checking out the Griffith Observatory, of course! (I am an astrologer, and I love astronomy, as well.)
Wednesday, I would book us a two day Starline Tours, and on the first day, I would explore both the Santa Monica and Hollywood lines.
Thursday, we would finish the Starline Tours at Downtown Los Angeles, and I would have them explore my two favorite parts of Downtown: Little Tokyo and Plaza Olvera.
Friday: I would take them to Long Beach: start off at Shoreline Village, then end up at my favorite gay karaoke place, Executive Suites.
Saturday: Universal Studios!!!!!!!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Absolutely. Ryan Mendoza for considering me; Carlos Alejandro Lujan for always keeping me in mind; the two gentlemen in my band who go along with the wildest ideas I have: Johnny Loera III & Niko Bobluk; the wonderful directors: Stella Acosta & Jennifer Davis; Joseph Avila, my co-songwriter; my family: Sandra Maria, David Gomez, Freddie Gomez (I am Mexican; the list is long, so I will just stop here. Absolutely, everyone in my family influences me artistically and personally); Michael Martinez; Tim Maloney; Fernando Funes; Frankie Estrella; Tanner Ortiz; Thalia Ramirez; Ashcolin Nova.
