We had the good fortune of connecting with Christian Carandang and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Christian, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The thought process behind starting Font Row Web Designs came from my lifelong love for creating. I’ve always been drawn to art and design, and there’s nothing more rewarding than taking a blank canvas and turning it into something that helps people. I remember the first time I built a site for someone and saw how it gave their business new life—it showed me this work could really have an impact. That’s when I knew starting my own business was the right path. With Font Row, my goal is to blend creativity and functionality, giving clients designs that not only look great but also move their business forward. For me, it’s passion with purpose.

What should our readers know about your business?
Font Row Web Designs started with a simple love for creating, but it’s grown into something that truly excites me every day—helping businesses and individuals tell their story online. What sets us apart is the blend of art and function. I don’t just build websites to look nice—I focus on making them meaningful, user-friendly, and designed to actually help clients grow.

Getting to this point definitely wasn’t easy. Starting a business from scratch means wearing many hats—designer, marketer, accountant—all at once. There were moments of doubt, especially in the beginning, when I wondered if I could really make this work. But I leaned on the skills I built during my UCLA Extension Coding Bootcamp, the support of my family, and the connections I made through Los Angeles meetup groups. Every challenge became a chance to learn, and that mindset kept me moving forward.

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that progress doesn’t come from perfection—it comes from consistency. Every project, every client, every mistake taught me something valuable. I’m most proud that Font Row has been able to stay true to its mission: creating from the heart, while making a real difference for others.

What I want the world to know about Font Row Web Designs is that we’re more than just a design business—we’re about empowerment. Whether it’s a small business owner launching their first site or someone reimagining their brand, I get to help bring their vision to life. That’s what drives me, and that’s what I’m excited to keep building on.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting LA for a week, I’d want them to see a little bit of everything—food, art, and those classic LA vibes. We’d probably start with breakfast at Sqirl in Silver Lake (their food is always fresh and creative) and then walk around Echo Park Lake. One evening we’d hike Griffith Park for the Hollywood Sign and sunset views—it never gets old.

We’d definitely spend a day in Venice, hanging out on the boardwalk, checking out the canals, and grabbing lunch on Abbot Kinney. Another day, I’d take them downtown to The Broad for art, then dinner at Bottega Louie and rooftop drinks at Perch to catch the skyline at night.

Santa Monica and Malibu would be on the list too—bike rides on the beach, seafood at Malibu Farm, and just soaking up that ocean breeze. And of course, I’d want them to see the Arts District before they go—it’s full of street art, coffee shops, and that creative energy I love about LA.

For me, LA is all about variety. You can go from a hike in the morning to a rooftop dinner at night, and that mix of nature, food, and culture is what makes it so special.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I wouldn’t be where I am today without the encouragement of my family and close friends who’ve always supported my love for creating. I also want to thank God for giving me the talent and passion to do what I love. A big shoutout as well to my class from the UCLA Extension Coding Bootcamp, they played a huge role in shaping my journey and pushing me to keep learning and building. The Los Angeles meetup groups have also been an amazing source of inspiration, giving me the chance to connect with others, share ideas, and grow together. And of course, my clients deserve a huge thank you. Their trust pushes me to keep improving and reminds me why I love what I do.
