We had the good fortune of connecting with Tara Sutphen and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tara, we’d love to hear what makes you happy.
Looking inside to be cheerful. Even when I’m not sure of what that looks like, as happiness is a work in progress of fleeting feelings. Life is about presence, being genuine, and authentic. So many people struggle with shyness, lack of confidence and fear. I love hypnotherapy as it bolsters the spirit, eases the mind and sparks the body into activation. I use my psychic and hypnotherapist abilities to offer solutions. There is always a way out. My inner happiness may not be always giddy but I’m deeply content, my path came early… to help others is my calling. Oh, and, deep happiness for me too… is to love horses, I do horse therapy too.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Tara: I could say it wasn’t a planned career, but every person I’ve met and all the events I’ve experienced are predestined. I faced many trials on my journey which gave me a great depth of empathy and understanding. I am content and fulfilled with my purpose. I have always combined hypnotherapy and psychic ability together with my clients, students and seminar groups.

At merely six weeks old, I danced with death, a fragile infant caught in a 7 1/2 hour surgery, given last rites and not expected to survive. The NDE I had, gave me an awareness that would guide me. As a baby and toddler, I was very aware of everyone’s issues and feelings. At Eight years old, I was hemorrhaging and moved onto the operating table just as I had the last gasp, experiencing the euphoria and white light and having conversations with Ethereal beings. Yet, another close call further deepened my awareness of mortality. It was during these moments that my psychic abilities emerged even further, leading me to connections with shaman, priests, and holy humans. They recognized in me as a kindred spirit, a vessel of untapped potential, and approached me easily. When I was young I thought everyone experienced this…my world has been filled with “the seers”.

Raised in diverse environments, from the streets of the San Francisco Bay Area to the serene landscapes of Alaska, my upbringing was infused with a rich tapestry of cultural influences. The deep connection to nature, my horses and the spiritual realm is evident in my practices, as I incorporate elements of shamanism and mysticism into my sessions.

I found that the combination of hypnotherapy and psychic intuition created a powerful synergy. Hypnotherapy allowed clients to access their subconscious, uncovering hidden fears and traumas, while my psychic abilities offered insights that transcended the conventional therapeutic boundaries. When I first ventured into the realm of hypnotherapy, it was with a sense of curiosity and purpose. I began to psychically connect using my innate divination skills, I sought to delve deeper into the subconscious of the querent—The practice of Telepathy, Clairvoyance, Clairaudience, Clairsentience, and Automatic-Writing became bridges, allowing me to channel insights and messages that emerged during in-depth trance sessions. In this sacred space, clients would often relive their past traumas, uncover fragments of past lives, or past experiences of this life where they sought my perceptions in each session. I’d uncover hidden layers of their issues while they were under hypnosis. I would be looking for solutions and seeking direction to their issues and problems. My experiences fostered a profound understanding of life, death, and the unseen forces that bind us all. This unique journey has not only shaped my career but has also sculpted my philosophy toward healing and self-discovery.

My purpose has crystallized into a mission of healing, understanding, and growth. The trials I faced—each near-death experience, each moment of vulnerability—have become my greatest teachers, guiding me to serve others with compassion and insight.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Tara Exploring the Soul of Los Angeles with Friends!

When welcoming a friend to the vibrant city of Los Angeles, I always aim to craft an experience that is as refreshing as it is fulfilling. Upon picking them up at the airport, my first stop is always “Cafe Gratitude” in Venice, known for its nourishing, plant-based dishes that leave you feeling energized and inspired. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, perfect for rekindling our friendship after a long flight. As they head off to bed I give the a Nuskin rejuvenating and hydration face mask to use.

After a restful night, before coffee, I offer them a Lifewave X39 patch, to stimulate light wavelengths which help activate stem cells. I then love to introduce my friends to the healing power of horses. We head to the most serene location, my barn, where I offer horse therapy, allowing them to connect with these magnificent creatures. Whether it’s on a massage table or engaging in shamanic exercises, this experience is transformative and grounding. Following our equine adventures, we unwind with infused herbal teas at The Healing Tree in Thousand Oaks, a cozy spot that promotes relaxation and rejuvenation.

As the sun sets, it’s time to indulge in the culinary richness of LA. The city is a treasure trove of Mexican cuisine, and I often recommend Sabor in Valencia for a delightful dinner. The ambiance is enchanting, and the flavors are authentic, making it an unforgettable dining experience. Other favorite evening spots include The Odyssey in Granada Hills, where you can enjoy stunning views alongside delicious meals, and Cafe Habana in Malibu, known for its vibrant atmosphere and flavorful dishes.

For a touch of elegance, Gracias Madre in Beverly Hills offers a unique twist on traditional Mexican food, featuring organic and locally sourced ingredients. If my friends are in the mood for a romantic setting, Tra di Noi in Malibu is a must-visit, combining Italian flair.

During their visit, I also love to explore the natural beauty of the area. We stroll through the Huntington Gardens, a serene escape filled with lush landscapes and diverse plant collections, or visit the Lake Shrine, a peaceful spot ideal for meditation and reflection. And of course, no trip to LA would be complete without a wander along the beautiful beaches, where the sound of the waves provides a perfect backdrop for heartfelt conversations. Gallery’s, movies, plays and events are a must in the city as well.

Lastly, I often set up a session at my treatment room for some hypnotherapy from me, allowing my friend to unwind and explore the depths of their consciousness in a supportive environment.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
“Born Again to Be Together” is a heartfelt testament to the profound connections and unwavering support that shape our lives. Central to this narrative is Cynthia Hudson, the inspiring owner of Aspiring Magazine, whose encouragement ignites a flame of creativity not just within me but in countless other Angelenos. Her friendship acts as a beacon, guiding us to produce work that not only inspires but also aspires us to reach new heights.

The bonds I share with my best friends, Carmen Anderson and Marla Maples, are woven through decades of unwavering support and soul-deep connections. Each shared laugh, tear, and triumph adds layers to our friendship, making it a sanctuary where we can be our true selves. I often reflect on how fortunate I am to have collected such incredible individuals in my life. They are the very essence of humanity—kind, encouraging, and relentlessly uplifting.

Family plays an equally significant role in this tapestry of love and support. My family—William, Hunter, Cheyenne, and Everest—stand by me like pillars, offering strength and reassurance. The love from my brothers, Scott and Jason, my sister Amy, and our dear mother, Marianne, is an unwavering force that reminds me that no matter the challenges we face, love is always the answer.

This narrative isn’t merely about the people who surround me; it’s a celebration of the community we build together—a community that thrives on encouragement, camaraderie, and the shared belief that we can achieve greatness when we uplift one another. In a world that often feels chaotic, these relationships remind me that love and support can conquer all, and together, we can rise and aspire to be even more.

In my book “Soul Writers,” I have woven the essence of my friendship with Jess Stearn into a tapestry of shared wisdom and exploration. Jess was not just a friend; he was a kindred spirit, a beacon of light in my life, and our decades-long friendship.

Jess Stearn (April 27, 1914 – March 27, 2002) was an American journalist and author of more than thirty books, nine of which were bestsellers. We met in Hollywood at an Italian restaurant where people came to sing “opera”. The Lords of Fate clapped that day. Jess soon introduced me to my future husband, whom I married on his deck overlooking the ocean in Malibu. Each baby I had, he was present with the family in the waiting room. But he was especially tickled when I had a baby on his birthday! All holidays and everyday life was filled with camaraderie.

As we navigated topics like the power of intention, the significance of dreams, and the potential of human consciousness, I felt an exhilarating sense of awakening. He taught me that the boundaries of reality were often self-imposed, and that the exploration of metaphysics and the paranormal was not just an intellectual pursuit but a deeply personal journey toward understanding oneself and the universe.

As the years passed and my own work began to unfold, I started to realize how profoundly our paths had intertwined. Coincidentally, my research and pursuits began to mirror some of his own. The themes we once discussed—reincarnation, the nature of consciousness, and the exploration of psychic phenomena—found their way into my professional life. I found myself writing, teaching, and sharing insights that echoed the very ideas we had passionately debated on those warm evenings filled with laughter, wonder and lots of orange juice and/or my home cooking..

The experience of automatic writing has been both humbling and exhilarating. It is as if Jess, in his new form, is still passionately exploring the very questions that once consumed him. Each session feels like a dialogue with his spirit, as if we are continuing the conversations we once had, albeit on a different plane of existence. The messages that emerge are often profound, shedding light on the nature of the soul, the continuity of consciousness, and the interconnectedness of all beings. He challenged me to think critically and to embrace a unique voice, reminding me that every story is worth telling.
