We had the good fortune of connecting with Fernando Alves and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Fernando, what makes you happy? Why?
Over time I realized that what truly makes me happy is the act of sharing. When I was younger I thought playing guitar itself was what made me happy. But as I grew older and started exploring other forms of expression such as writing articles, telling stories, teaching, participating in podcasts, doing interviews like this one, writing songs and poetry, I noticed the same deep feeling inside me. A sense of meaning, satisfaction, and connection. That is when I understood that music was only one of many ways to share what I experience as a human being.

I believe we are meant to experience the world fully and to share those experiences with others. That exchange and that flow of creativity and honesty is what fulfills me the most.

Right now DJing is something that makes me especially happy because it allows me to share music that I discover through research, curiosity, or pure coincidence. I get to shape a mix that reflects my inner world, and then share that with people who might feel something similar. I find it interesting how the right songs always appear at the right time. My mixes reflect different moments in my life. Some are mellow, some are energetic, and others are darker, but they all have one thing in common. They allow me to share my experiences through music in a way that feels real and meaningful.

Sharing is where I feel the most alive. Music just happens to be the language I am using right now.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art is a reflection of the different phases of my life. I treat DJing as a form of storytelling, a way to express emotions and experiences through sound. Every mix I create represents a specific moment in my life. Some are calm, others are energetic or darker, but they all come from an honest place. What sets me apart is that I do not approach music mechanically. I build sets with intention, with meaning, and with the goal of creating a feeling rather than simply playing songs.

I am most proud of the journey that brought me here. I started with guitar, then writing, then storytelling, and eventually DJing became the place where all these forms of expression came together. My art grew as I grew, and that evolution is something I value deeply.

Reaching this point in my career was not easy. I went through financial struggles, uncertainty, and years where I had to rebuild myself more than once. But those difficult moments shaped me. They gave me clarity about who I am and what I want to create.

The most important lesson I learned is the power of positivity and optimism. Everything begins with a thought and an attitude. How you choose to perceive your reality determines your ability to move forward, to see opportunities, to communicate better, and to take care of yourself. Negativity does not contribute in any way. It paralyses, clouds judgment, and makes life heavier than it needs to be. I believe I am responsible for how I interpret my experiences, and there is always something valuable to learn in any situation. Challenges should be approached with optimism, courage, and gratitude. Gratitude for having the strength to face them, and gratitude for what they will teach you.

What I want the world to know about my brand is that everything I create comes from a real place. My mixes and sets reflect my inner world and the emotions I am living at that moment. My goal is not just to entertain people, but to create connection, presence, and a sense of meaning. My story is one of transformation, resilience, and using art as a way to turn life itself into something expressive and beautiful.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If a friend were visiting, I would start by showing them the nature around Los Angeles, because that is where I feel most alive. I love hiking in the mountains, especially the higher trails in the Angeles National Forest. There is something powerful about being up there above the city, breathing fresh air, and seeing the landscape open up in every direction. I would take them on one of my favorite long hikes so they can experience that feeling of clarity and presence.

After a day outdoors, we would eat at one of my favorite Brazilian spots, Pampas Grill at the Farmers Market. It is simple, delicious, and feels like home to me. The Farmers Market itself has a very authentic vibe and a ton of good food options, so it is always a fun stop.

Since we would already be in the area, I would take them to Barnes and Noble at The Grove. I love walking around there and looking at books, because books always spark the best conversations. We would check out the art section, look at the coffee table books, pretend we understand every piece, and just enjoy the vibe. And of course we would grab the pineapple juice from the Barnes cafe, which is the best one in LA.

During the week, I would also take them to Malibu. The Malibu Pier is one of the most peaceful and beautiful places in Los Angeles. It is a perfect spot to slow down, have deeper conversations, or just appreciate the ocean. That combination of nature and calm energy is something I always want friends to experience.

If they are into creativity and music, I would show them where I work on my mixes, maybe bring them to a DJ set if it lines up, or take them to a cool coffee shop where I like to write or think. Sharing music and creative spaces is a big part of my life, so I would want them to see that side of me too.

We would balance mountains, ocean, good food, art, books, and meaningful conversations. For me, an ideal week is a mix of simple pleasures and inspiring places. I would want to show them all the spots where I feel the most connected to myself and the city, because that is what makes a visit unforgettable.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are many people and influences that shaped my path, but I need to start by acknowledging my family. Even from far away, their love and support gave me strength during some of the hardest moments of my life. When I was broke, lost, or sleeping on a kitchen floor, knowing that they believed in me kept me grounded. Their faith in me gave me the courage to keep moving forward.

Right after my family, I want to recognize the friends who supported me when I was still trying to build everything from scratch. They were the ones who invited me to play at events when no one knew my name. They were there for long conversations whenever I needed clarity, honesty, or simply someone who understood the journey. These friends encouraged me to keep creating, to trust my vision, and to stay true to myself. They may not realize how much those moments mattered, but they helped shape the foundation I stand on today.

Then there are the mentors I never met in person but who influenced my mindset in a powerful way. Thinkers like Nietzsche, Carl Jung, Viktor Frankl, Steven Pressfield, and others gave me frameworks that changed how I see myself and the world. Their ideas became anchors when life felt chaotic, and they continue to guide my personal philosophy.

I also want to acknowledge the community that supports my work. Every person who listens to my mixes, attends my shows, or shares my music is part of my story. I moved to a new country with nothing but a dream and a guitar, and every connection I made through my art helped turn that dream into a real path.

And finally, if there is someone who deserves the most credit in all of this, that person is me. For reasons I still cannot fully explain, I was able to hold on to my goals even during the darkest moments of my life. I stayed positive when everything around me was falling apart. I practiced gratitude when I had almost nothing. I kept believing in myself when there was no external proof that things would work out. That resilience, that refusal to quit, that inner fire is the reason I am here today. I built this version of myself through discipline, intuition, and absolute commitment. I am proud of that.

My journey is mine, but it was strengthened by everyone who walked alongside me. And at the center of it, I also chose to show up for myself every day.
