Meet Chelsey Goldberg

We had the good fortune of connecting with Chelsey Goldberg and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chelsey, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
Henry David Thoreau: “Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you have imagined,”
This quote really resonates with me because I truly believe that anyone can accomplish anything that they set their mind to, and this quote is just a reminder of that. Anything is possible by confidently chasing something and as a result one can live the life that he or she imagines.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As a professional womens ice hockey player, being from LA, what sets me apart from others is the story and journey to the highest level being from Southern California. As an ice hockey player on the west coast, especially on the womens side, I did not have access to as many resources or even hockey arenas/teams growing up that many of my teammates and competitors along the way had access to on the East Coast or midwest where hockey is a more popular sport. The sport has grown tremendously out west which is amazing to see, and also one of my biggest passions is to continue to help grow the game that has given me so much. But I grew up playing boys hockey with my twin brother out in Simi Valley which was the closest arena/team to my parents house. Playing boys hockey definitely helped develop me into the player that I eventually become. The hours in the car and at the ice rink and training, commitment, sacrifices along the way were not easy, but all worth it in the end. With hard work and commitment anything truly is possible, and seeing how much the game has grown since I grew up playing in LA inspires me to continue to grow the sport of hockey in LA and nation/worldwide. The LA Kings, Anaheim Ducks, and San Jose Sharks are all doing an amazing effort growing the game on the West Coast, and it is an honor to be able to work together with the LA Kings to continue to develop and grow the game. Having achieved my goal of playing collegiate hockey in Boston and signing professional after that and having played at some of the highest levels and being a part of the inaugural process of the Professional Womens Hockey League (PWHL) in the early development stages is a testament that if you can see it you can be it. One of my goals while playing professionally was to continue to create a league a place where young girls growing up playing hockey could one day dream of playing professional hockey for a living, and now with the PWHL that is 100 percent possible.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I have had many teammates and friends come visit me, but if my best friend had a week in LA, I’d give them the full “LA lifestyle” experience — beach, wellness, creativity, food, and a little LA lovin.
Day 1 – Beach reset (Marina del Rey → Venice-> Manhattan/Hermosa)
We’d start slow and sunny. Morning walk along the Marina, find a cute coffee spot, then a beach workout or bike ride along the Strand. Lunch maybe in Manhattan/Hermosa, walk or rollerblade the boardwalk. Sunset in Venice, people-watching, then casual din/drinks in the area.
Day 2 – Wellness + Malibu magic
Early morning hike at Runyon Canyon or the hollywood sign. Post-hike smoothies or acai bowls or erewhon :), then we’d head up the coast to Malibu. Lunch at Malibu Farm, ocean views mandatory. After the farm. we can walk to Nobu for some drinks on the water or some solid apps/food. Golden hour on the beach, dinner back in the city at Elephante — very LA, very vibey.
Day 3 – Creative LA (Silver Lake / Echo Park)
For the artsy folks we can head a little bit more inland. This is the artsy, soulful side of the city. Coffee, walking around Echo Park, vintage shopping, sitting by the lake. Dinner at Bacari Silverlake, then a live show or DJ set if something good is happening. LA’s creative energy really lives here.
Day 4 – Classic Hollywood energy
We’d do a midday stroll through Griffith Observatory (best city views, hands down). Late lunch/ coffee on sunset Blvd, could go for a stroll through Beverly Hills/Rodeo. Followed by a Night out in West Hollywood — dinner as well maybe in Weho.
Day 5 – Downtown LA culture day
Show them what downtown LA is like. walk around Arts District murals, grab tacos, and end the night at a rooftop like Perch for skyline views. Or depending on the season could catch a basketball or hockey game at Crypto Arena with a little LA Live action before/ after.
Day 6 – Santa Monica → Sunset drinks
Farmer’s Market in Santa Monica, ocean swims, slow afternoon. Dinner at Élephante (worth repeating), then sunset drinks overlooking the water. Walk through third street prominade give a little more taste of Santa Monica. Show off the tourist trap of the pier.
Day 7 – Community + connection
Brunch with friends, maybe a workout class, beach picnic, and a sunset walk to close the week. LA is about people as much as places — creatives, athletes, founders, artists — everyone chasing something and inspiring each other along the way.
What I love most about LA is that it lets you design your life. You can be in nature, build something creative, take care of your body, and connect with wildly interesting people — all in the same day. It’s chaotic, inspiring, and endlessly energizing in the best way.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
If we are jumping right in, I am going to jump right in and say my family and friends and inner circle deserve a little credit and recognition in my story. If it werent for the support of my family and friends growing up believing in me and allowing me to pursue my dreams of becoming an athlete then I do not know if I would be where I am today. Special shoutout to my twin brother as well who I grew up playing ice hockey with who challenged me to become a better person and athlete every single day.
