We had the good fortune of connecting with Emily Lieh and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Emily, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I have thought of risk as necessary in business and life. Without risk, no one would be able to face challenges or to reach goals necessary to sustain themselves. One major risk that comes to mind was when I was away from Los Angeles for most of the COVID-19 pandemic. I was determined to post on Instagram and to create content regardless of the circumstances. I held photoshoots at home using my mobile phone. I found vintage clothing from my mother’s closet and bought clothing from a Los Angeles fashion company to model for the photoshoots.

Working on my personal brand, attempting to run an online brand, and staying healthy contributed major risks to my health due to being at home and not going out to socialize. After receiving the vaccine in 2021, I led an active social life online since the restrictions were still active at many retail establishments and where crowds would likely gather. I searched for gainful employment due to the prolonging of what appeared to be more fatalities. I, eventually, worked part time jobs as a brand ambassador and merchandiser.

I enjoyed a sense of stability, but the risks of working in person remained. A manager informed me there were people who didn’t have enough hours. Another manager informed me that he didn’t have any events for me to work. Somehow, I was able to work events as a brand ambassador at a retail store and to create beautiful skincare displays at other stores.

I consistently showed up to my shifts and never once thought I would be working as a manager for about 3 years in retail. It happened, and, to this day, I am still flabbergasted that I got to know people who could enjoy retirement and work for fun.

Sometimes, after work, I held fashion photoshoots and created content due the unpredictability of retail and consumer needs. I continued living a fashion life away from work and explored fashion retail when I visited Milan, Sorrento, and New York City.

I fully reconnected with Los Angeles through friends and fashion experiences. At the end of the day, business is still business, but I try to never forget to have a good time along the journey by getting to know people, spending time with family, and enjoying free time with fashion.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have discovered that exploring hotels and visiting locations of interest such as outdoor shopping areas, retail stores, and festivals have made content creation easier to manage. I build upon my work experiences from various businesses and a non-profit organization to advance the necessary work of content creation in fashion.

Since starting a website, I have noticed how time appears to move quickly with fashion. Slowing down or waiting for the next opportunity has not been the answer. Instead, it has been the opportunity for me to continue content creation and to promote the inventory online.

I am thankful for those who have guided me in my previous work experiences. I can look back on the lessons I learned from education and the experiences that enriched my life.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Some of the places we could visit include Santa Monica Beach, Venice Beach, Malibu, and DTLA. We would likely visit Cava, Pine and Crane, The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf, Erewhon, and Whole Foods. We would explore Rodeo Drive, Santee Alley, and Abbott Kinney. Other places that we could check out include LACMA, Hammer Museum, and other art museums.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to thank family, friends, mentors, co-workers (in nonprofit), and co-workers (in businesses).
