Meet Kevin Baker | Founder & Chief Marketing Strategist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kevin Baker and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kevin, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
For as long as I can remember, I always knew entrepreneurship would be part of my future. I did not always know exactly what it would look like, but I knew I wanted to build something of my own. Something that would make a real impact.
Like a lot of people, my path hasn’t been a straight line. Over the years, I moved in and out of entrepreneurship and corporate work because I had responsibilities and needed to make ends meet. My last corporate role was with a large marketing company, where I worked with businesses across the country. That experience taught me a lot. I was able to see systems, processes, and marketing strategies that worked at scale.
But I also started noticing what was missing.
When you are serving businesses nationwide, marketing can easily become too broad. The strategy may be technically sound, but it can miss the heart of the local community. For local businesses, that community understanding matters. You have to understand the people, the culture, the neighborhood, the conversations happening locally, and what makes that business meaningful to the people around it.
That is really the foundation Equity Digital was built on.
I started Equity Digital because I believe local businesses deserve marketing that is not only strategic, but connected to the communities they serve. My goal is to help businesses get clear, build the right systems, and use marketing in a way that helps them grow while staying rooted in their local identity.
At the heart of it, I believe strong local businesses help build strong communities. That belief has shaped the way I think about marketing, business, and the kind of work I want Equity Digital to be known for.

What should our readers know about your business?
Equity Digital is a marketing agency built to help local businesses grow with more clarity, structure, and confidence. We help business owners strengthen their online presence, understand their marketing, and build systems that support real growth.
What sets us apart is our Marketing Universe Model. The Marketing Universe Model is a framework I developed to help business owners see marketing as a connected system, where their website, content, SEO, social media, ads, messaging, and customer journey all work together. It is important because when local businesses can clearly see how their marketing connects, they can stop guessing and start building a strategy that actually supports long-term growth.
Getting here was not easy. I have moved between entrepreneurship and corporate work while building stability for my family. But each season taught me something valuable. Corporate marketing taught me systems and structure. Entrepreneurship taught me resilience, ownership, and how personal the journey is when you are building something from the ground up.
What I am most proud of is that Equity Digital is becoming more than just an agency. It is becoming a resource for local businesses through education, transparency, and community-focused marketing.
What excites me most is the future. I believe local businesses are the heartbeat of strong communities, and Equity Digital exists to help them become more visible, more confident, and better prepared to grow.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting the area, I would hope them trip aligned with a community festival weekend like the Inglewood Market Street Festival, Taste of Soul, or the Juneteenth Festival in Leimert Park. To me, those are the kinds of events that let you really feel the energy, culture, and creativity of Los Angeles, and Southern California.
I would probably start the day with something peaceful, like yoga or tai chi in the park, most likely at Kenneth Hahn. After that, we would grab a fruit bowl from a street vendor with pineapple, mango, cucumber, Tajín, and Chamoy. That is one of those simple LA experiences that just hits every time.
From there, we would head to the festival, walk around, try different food, support local businesses, listen to music, and take in the community. I love experiences where there are multiple food options, good people, local vendors, and a real sense of community and culture.
Later in the day, I would take them to another local spot, Ale Works Brewery in Hawthorne. They have a great outdoor area with plenty of sun, so it is a nice place to relax, listen to live music, and enjoy the day.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my family.
My wife deserves so much credit. She is not only my partner in life, but also a huge part of what makes everything possible. She homeschools our children, supports our household, and has also stepped in to help with what has become our business. Over time, she has taken on real responsibilities inside Equity Digital, and I can honestly say I could not do this work without her.
I also have to give credit to my three children, who are 14, 12, and 7. In many ways, they are the reason behind the work. I am not just building a business for myself. I am trying to build something bigger than myself. Something that creates opportunities for my kids, teaches them the value of ownership and community, and gives them the option to carry it forward if they ever want to.
We are a very tight-knit family, and they teach me just as much as I try to teach them. They remind me why the work we do matters, why legacy matters, and why it is important to build something with purpose.
At the end of the day, Equity Digital is not just a business goal for me. It is connected to the life I want to create for my family and the example I want to set for my children. It is what I hope to inspire in others as well.
