Meet Nehal Modi | Graphic Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Nehal Modi and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nehal, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
I believe for a design concept, not every idea always deserves full production. If the idea keeps revealing and developing new possibilities, refine and push forward. If one is forcing solutions, losing clarity, and the core idea no longer communicates or works for the brief, it may be time to let it go. Design is knowing when to iterate, and when to archive an idea to make room for a stronger one.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My work sits at the intersection of strategy, storytelling, and execution. What excites me most about design is its ability to shape how people see, feel, and understand something. I believe design starts with the content and context. I spend a lot of time understanding and researching about the brief before designing. Like many designers, I spent years questioning my work, comparing myself to others, and learning how to balance creativity with discipline. One of the biggest challenges was realizing that talent alone isn’t enough. Consistency, curiosity, and the willingness to learn, adapt and always look out for ideas over and over are what actually move you forward.
The biggest lesson I have learned is that execution matters as much as the idea itself. A great concept can fail without craft, and great craft without a point of view is forgettable. Finding your own voice takes time, and it keeps evolving as you grow!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If a friend were visiting for a week, I probably wouldn’t take them to the typical tourist spots. I’d want them to experience the city the way I do—through its neighborhoods, parks, food, and the people who give it character.
We’d start slow: a morning walk through a park, coffee from a local spot, and an afternoon wandering through galleries and independent bookstores. I love places where you can observe how people actually live, work, and spend their time. Also trip would involve a lot of food!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
A lot of my journey is built on people and environments who helped shape how I see and think. My parents and family encouraged and supported my pursuit a creative path, even when it wasn’t always the obvious one. My friends deserve a huge shoutout too, they constantly push me, challenge my ideas, and remind me to keep going when projects get tough.
My almost first design faculty, Imran and Anando. More than teaching design, they taught me how to think differently, question assumptions, and approach problems from unexpected angles. That mindset has stayed with me far beyond the classroom.
And of course, MICA played a huge role in shaping my perspective as a designer. It reinforced that good ideas alone aren’t enough—execution matters just as much, and developing an original voice is what ultimately makes the work meaningful and memorable.
