We had the good fortune of connecting with Savvas Christou and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Savvas, what is the most important factor behind your success?
When I wrote “Katherine’s Lullaby”, I was trying to visualize faces, voices and movements. I was married with some ideas that I had in my mind but as soon as I formed the team, things were starting to change. I had a strong vision of what I wanted, but the team brought a whole load of ideas which made the movie even stronger. To me, one of the most important factors behind the film was to listen to everyone – teamwork. Having the ability to hear everybody’s opinion it’s a huge thing in a job like this. Filmmaking requires having the capacity to cooperate with various departments at the same time, while you have to multitask all the time. Sometimes decisions have to be made even when you are not present. A good team will know exactly what to do in any problem you will face.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m excited to release my debut feature film “Katherine’s Lullaby” to the world. For that to be achieved it was a long and not easy road. I was always trying to be proud in everything I do. Even if it is my job, my relationships with people or something really unimportant. For me, feeling positive in everything I did and having my goals really high was the key to where I am today. Dedicating a great amount of passion, effort and time defined how proud I am today. Challenges were piling up on every step. I felt it was a never-ending road and till very recently, this seemed to be true. The turning point for me was when I realized that if I wanted to have a career that I envisioned, I should be able to make hard choices that no matter what I would never regret afterwards. I convinced myself to get used to the fact that nothing will ever be easy and regardless of the outcome, I should know that I did the best I could given the current status at that point. I’ve always been curious. Always trying to prove to myself that I could do something – small or big. If an idea grabs my attention, then I will try and make it a reality.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
It depends on who he / she is and what they like. We would probably go for a different hike every day, try different cuisines in the city and definitely go to a premiere of a movie. That’s mainly how I passed my time in Los Angeles before the lockdown.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
It all starts from the family – the people who raised me. I owe them everything I am and how I think. Then it goes to my friends who gave me the ability to express myself in a different way. As I grow up, everyone I want to include in my life plays a significant part of who I will become. It’s all about memories and experiences. On the other hand, it’s up to me to educate myself beyond my studies. For us, filmmakers, watching movies is not only entertaining, it is also time for research. So in this case the credit goes to my teachers and everyone that was involved in the films I watched so far. Those are the influencers in my craft. And lastly, all the people who worked in my films helped to shape the final success of my story so far. From the production assistants – all the way to the producers.
