We had the good fortune of connecting with Mae Brunken and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mae, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
Throughout my career and my life, I believe that you should always keep going. There have been times that are challenging for me, but they have inspired me to shift accordingly, which has led to new growth. We all have difficult days and may feel like giving up,, but the next day, or the next week it gets better. I think it’s important to look at life as if something good is about to happen, because our thoughts become our life.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As an interior designer, there are many occasions that I wear all of the hats, so I am always busy. I enjoy the creative aspect, however my days are usually filled with executing the job. This involves overseeing my team to do research, sourcing, follow through on orders, drawings and construction management, as well as communication with the client. I am also working on some things to give back more to the community and to the environment.
Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
I enjoy going to some of the galleries that have relocated to Hollywood for inspiration, such as Blackman Cruz, Ralph Pucci and Just One Eye, which is a concept store. Although, I don’t always have the opportunity to purchase from them for my clients, I love to see what they are doing. There are also a few great lunch spots in the area.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are many people in my story, but two people stand out. My soul sister, Rita Ghanime, who has not only been a constant source of love and light in my life, but she also has a beautiful Kimono line infused with love. My friend Eduardo Lucero, is also a source of inspiration and support. He is a talented fashion designer, who creates the most amazing clothing that embodies who you are at your best and who you want to be. We are entrepreneurs in creative fields and although our experiences are different, there are may parallels.
