We had the good fortune of connecting with Felicia Sun and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Felicia, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
I’m always inspired when learning of businesses that have strategic vision to impact people and communities. I made two trips to Cambodia in 2013 and 2016, and during one of these trips, I visited a design studio where a missionary couple was teaching young Cambodians graphic design skills and training them using real-world projects. They would have the students design marketing material for local businesses, such as menus for local restaurants. I was so inspired as I watched this couple teach young people (many of them orphans) professional art & design skills so they could escape the cycle of poverty and make a living for themselves. At the same time, their studio was helping local businesses thrive. I aim to model my own business after organizations like this with a thoughtfully holistic vision to provide training, opportunities, and dignity to the least of society.
What inspires me most to use business as a vehicle for impact is actually the Bible. Proverbs 24:3 says, “Wise people are builders—they build families, businesses, communities. And through intelligence and insight, their enterprises are established and endure.”
My ultimate motivation is to use entrepreneurship to strengthen the poor and provide safe employment for the at-risk, because Jesus Himself was the most compassionate Person alive. Proverbs 12:17 says, “Every time you give to the poor, you make a loan to the Lord.”
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
As a marketing and design firm, I’d like other business owners to know that we’re not here just to “get the job done.” Your branding is the face of your business, and that alone makes it of monumental importance. I believe design should not just be attractive, but extremely thoughtful. As someone with a science and psychology background, I believe branding must be informed by your business goals. For instance, who’s your target market? We want to appeal to their aesthetic preferences. What do you want people to feel when they experience your brand? We want to evoke those feelings through the collaboration of color, typography, photography, and layout. These types of questions are part of the formula we use for great, purposeful design. You can expect us to create with excellence, to operate with integrity, and to treat your business like our very own. I also want clients to know that 10% of the income from all of our projects goes directly to fighting human trafficking globally, so that’s another reason to do business with us!
Following is a list of the services we offer:
• Graphic Design (Branding, Marketing Materials, Social Media Graphics)
• Photography (Brand Photoshoots, Employee Headshots, Product & Food Photography, Event Photography)
• Videography (Company Introduction Videos, Product or Process Videos)
• Content Marketing (Blogposts, Email Newsletters, Press Release Writing, Website Copy)
• Social Media Management
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Starting down south, I would take my friend to explore San Diego with visits to La Jolla Beach, Balboa Park, Phil’s BBQ, and Extraordinary Desserts! We’d then spend a whole day or two at Disneyland & California Adventure. Next would be Laguna Beach to stroll on the beach and around the quaint shops. Then I’d take her to San Gabriel Valley for a food tour: Dim Sum, Savoy Kitchen, BoPoMoFo Cafe by Wong Fu productions, and Colima Road in Rowland Heights (my hometown – if you know, you know). I’d save the last two days for the city of Angels, visiting 3rd Street Promenade and the Santa Monica Pier, Griffith Observatory, Little Tokyo, LACMA, USC (my alma mater), and eat up all the bomb food in LA! The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many people along my journey who have been sources of encouragement, support, and wisdom. I want to give a huge shoutout to my close friends, family, and church for their strong support. I’m also thankful for past employers and co-workers who’ve both given me work and referred me to new clients. THANK YOU! I especially want to dedicate this to my husband, who dreams bigger for my life than I do. Your support is loud, your pride over me puts a smile on my face, and your belief in me strengthens me to press on. Love you!
