We had the good fortune of connecting with Jojo Belisario and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jojo, what principle do you value most?
“Let all you do be done in love” – Corinthians 16:14.
This scripture is my “guiding light” and also the foundation of my business! After working for 5+ years in the music industry, I knew that the next step in my career had to be driven by love. I ended up naming my business SixteenFourteen Events so everyone (no matter their own beliefs), knows we come from a place of love.
What should our readers know about your business?
We at SixteenFourteen Events specialize in creating moments that are experiential, elevated, and just really effing fun! We are a full-service planning and design company based in Los Angeles, bringing to life weddings and events all throughout California, the Pacific Northwest, Hawaii, and beyond. Our background is rooted in live events, having worked on music festivals, brand activations, theater productions, livestream broadcasts, and more. This is what makes us different — our skillset, expertise, and grit+gusto developed in the trenches of live events! We truly believe in Corinthians 16:14 – “Let all that you do be done in love”. This is our foundation; our guiding light. It is what fuels us to always aim for excellence in everything we do, because of who we do it for.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Love this question! I used to live close by DTLA, and now I live close by LB, so here are my fave places in both cities. LONG BEACH: – Coffee: Rose Park – Brunch: Berlin Bistro or Plunge – Dinner: Thai Curry Pizza – Shopping: BYO – Activity: Barhopping by way of bike, picnicking at Stadium Park, strolling through the Naples canals! DTLA: – Coffee: Verve – Brunch: Poppy + Rose – Dinner: Guisados – Shopping: Grand Park Farmer’s Market – Activity: Barhopping by way of Metro, attending a live show, strolling through the flower market! Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
All recognition goes to God — He directs my steps, opens doors, keeps others closed, and uses me as a vessel to show His love and care to others. I would not be anywhere if it weren’t for His love and care for me. Chance the Rapper said it best: “When the praises go up, the blessings come down.” There are SO many others to shoutout, so hopefully I can get these out before I get Acadamy-Awarded off the stage… – GUERILLA UNION (Rock the Bells Paid Dues, Smokeout Festivals): For teaching me how to navigate planning, producing, and executing live events. – KISSA ORTEGA (Ninong’s Dessert Lab): For accepting my invitation to lunch, giving me a crash course in wedding planning, and pushing me to bite the bullet and just go for it. – MY PARENTS: For giving me my first business loan ever: $500 to purchase a vendor booth at the Pasadena Bride World Expo (just two weeks after my conversation with Kissa). – MY SISTER + FRIENDS: For being my biggest hype men! And for making yourselves available to listen when I needed a sounding board. – RICHARD HA (my roomie at the time): For letting me use our home as my DIY studio, woodshop, warehouse, and so much more! Our home was constantly in shambles, and you were always patient and supportive. – BROOKE AVISHAY + THE ORANGE BLOSSOM SPECIAL EVENTS TEAM: For welcoming me into your team, taking me under your wings, showing me the ropes, and simply giving me a chance. Brooke was my mentor and a true definition of a Girlboss. – MY TEAM: Where do I even begin? NONE of our success would be possible without you. Your love and passion for events and our clients embody all that is SixteenFourteen. And your insight, knowledge, and grit+gusto contribute so much to our little family. So lucky and blessed to have you all by my side. And not last (because there are WAY too many to mention), and definitely not least (because he has done so much for me): – HILGARD CRUZ: My partner, my love; the one who’s been with me every single step of the way. You held me up at my lowest and celebrated with me at my highest. You’ve been in the trenches with me — helping with DIY projects, assisting at events, producing builds/installations, being my photographer/videographer — the list is ENDLESS. To say the least, you have been my road dog in almost every aspect of me growing my business. I value you, your insight, your critiques, and simply your presence. And I am endlessly grateful.
