We had the good fortune of connecting with Daria Mazur and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Daria, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I can honestly say that my whole life has been full of risks. When I was 21, I gave up my comfortable life in Europe and moved to Hollywood. I always knew I wanted to live in the USA. I got my visa, packed my bags and left.I wanted to study there and I left before I got accepted to my school. I didn’t know anybody there and I had never been there before. I just believed I would be. I didn’t allow myself to think “Oh but what if my life in the US doesn’t work out?” or “What if I don’t get accepted? What if I don’t meet any good friends? What if I never find a job?” ‘What if’ is an expression that has already ruined so many lives. I know incredible people, more gifted than me, who are afraid of taking a step forward because they are afraid of losing. If you don’t take a risk, you will always be in the same place. Nobody will do your work for you. Being afraid of taking a risk comes from the fact that we are so afraid of what other people will think if we fail. Well, if I was worried about what my aunt or friends think, I would have never dared to make my dreams come true. At the end of the day, even if people think you failed, so what? Who cares? If you let other people control your life, THAT is the biggest failure!
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am an actress. I was born in Poland and came to the US to in 2017. I am a student at the incredible Stella Adler Academy of Acting. When I watched Hollywood movies as a child, I always thought that being an actor in Hollywood must be extremely glamorous and that Los Angeles is heaven on Earth. The reality turned out to be a bit harsher. In this town, almost everyone is an actor. The competition is enormous. However, I am extremely grateful for that. Acting in Hollywood has taught me a lot about myself and about life. It has been a beautiful journey and the best time of my life. I met wonderful people, I have made incredible memories. Coming here was the best decision I have ever made.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Los Angeles is such a fantastic city to explore! You can spend here a year and you still will have tons of attractions to see. Here is an itinerary if my friend was wisiting me here: DAY 1 Beverly Hills. It’s a must. Everyone has heard of it. I love Bevely Hills because it’s very clean and elegant. I would walk around the Rodeo Drive and hang out in all those fancy stores. I would go to Laduree to eat their delicious macarons. DAY 2 Venice Beach and Santa Monica. Venice Beach is very artsy and it’s great to walk around the Pier. These are two legendary places and they’re lovely, but a little crowded. I like to ride a bike in Santa Monica or rent a scooter. It makes me happy. DAY 3 Malibu! It’s much calmer than Santa Monica, but still awesome. Point Dume Beach is great. I like to go there when I want to do something calmer. Then, dinner in Perch (Downtown LA, about 50 minutes drive from Malibu.) Perch has a stunning Downtown view and a rooftop bar where you can hang out. LA has the best rooftop bars. DAY 4 A trip to Santa Barbara. Santa Barbara is definitely my favorite place in California and one of my favorite places in the world. It IS heaven on Earth! It’s only 90 minutes from LA. It is a gorgeous riviera, I would take my friend to the beach and to walk around the charming Downtown. There’s a beach hotel called Rosewood Miramar Beach which has a breathtaking view. DAY 5 Even though Hollywood is not my favorite part of town, I would like my friend to see it, because well.. it’s Hollywood. The Walk of Fame and the Dolby Theatre where Oscars take place is a must. Disclaimer: Hollywood is not nearly as beautiful as the other parts of the city. DAY 6 We’re already around the Hollywood area, so if I would go to the Magic Castle. I have never been there myself, but it’s always been my little dream to go there because I heard so many things about it. It’s a members only spot, so somebody has to invite you. You spend a few hours there, see magic trics and hang out with magicians. It sounds perfect to me. Plus, dinner in TAO. It’s one of my favorite restaurants in LA. When you walk in there, the first thought is always ‘Wow!’ They have great food too. Their desserts are delicious, especially the molten lava cake. DAY 7 Something that everyone who lives here does, which is hiking! There’s tons of hiking trails, but the most famous one is obviosuly the one that leads to the Hollywood Sign. The sunsets there are magical!! I would also drive around the Hollywood Hills area and look at the beautiful mansions. Goodbye dinner in Catch, I love this restaurant. It’s so pretty!! It has the legandary HIT ME Cake dessert. I recommend!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Sarah Alhabri – my dearest friend, who was the first person I met in Los Angeles and who has been with me every step of the way since then.
