We had the good fortune of connecting with Yancy Perez (YAN) and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Yancy, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Ever since I started Acting I have been told that I am a risk taking actor by almost every director I have worked with. I have always wondered why they felt that way, but as I grew and have had the honor of working with other amazing actors from all over the world I noticed one thing that the majority shared that I was never able to comprehend. This barrier called “fear” has prevented many to not take risks whether it was in scene and someone was too scared to try something new or trust their instincts but there was always a cloud of fear following many other professionals I have met in my life. Fear is the preventative factor of risk taking, if you can find the cause of your fear you can disperse the effect it has in your life. I have always been willing to take risks and because of that I have gotten to where I am today and will continue to progress and reinvent things I do such as music, cinema and fashion. Risk is the gateway to achieving a full life.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am an Artist of all forms, I act, make music, take photos, draw, write poetry, whatever it is if it’s artistic I love to do it. It’s my therapy, it’s the only way I can express myself, even when I speak I view it as art because my words have the power to impact others lives and that’s what Art is, it’s an outlet to express yourself and impact those who are willing to receive. I want everyone to live their dreams. The world will be a better place if we moved forward in love instead of fear and followed our dreams and encouraged and inspire everyone we come across. I want to bring that to everyone whether it’s through my music or my films, I want someone to feel inspired to face every obstacle in their way and not feel defeated because I was able to encourage them to see the fullness of life each day instead of letting the hours fade. I have a few projects coming out this year I just finished up on this 8 song project called TWO KIDZ ONE CITY which I will be making into a short film. But I’m most excited for this album I have been working on since 2018. I have rewritten the concept like five times at this point but I feel like I struck gold and this is something I’m very excited to share hopefully in the foreseeable future. A major thing I’ve learned and have to keep learning is the art of patience and how important it is to trust God’s timing and not your own. I can’t wait for the rest of the world to experience the wonders of my mind but until then I will keep painting my unique beauty on the canvas of the world.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
One of my favorite spots in LA is Malibu, I just feel connected to Malibu and I’m at peace when I’m there. I love going on walks and admiring the beauty God created. I love going hiking and experiencing nature on my free time, as a vegetarian living in Los Angeles there are so many options for me to try new foods and meet people to connect with. My favorite thing to do would be getting dinner and heading over to Universal City Walk and catching a movie at AMC while ending the night in Universal Studios. It’s a vibe especially if you have the right company around you.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to give a shoutout to all the kids who feel like they’re different or that they don’t belong. The stubborn kids, the misfits, the dreamers, the weird kids and anyone who has ever been told to grow up or get real. LIVING YOUR DREAM is as real as life can get so don’t let anyone ever tell you different. Make sure you give your inner child the dreams they prayed for. There is nothing in this world telling you that you can’t live out your biggest dream the only thing that is stopping you is yourself deciding to listen to people or thoughts that do nothing but hold you back. So everything I’m doing today will help all of you tomorrow because I believe in you, just believe in yourself. God doesn’t give us dreams without the tools to make them come true.
