We had the good fortune of connecting with Eboni Price and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Eboni, do you think college made a positive impact on your life and career? Do you think it was worth the price tag?
College made a huge impact on the trajectory of my life and career. As an alumna of Howard University, I benefited from an incredible alumni network and invaluable lessons. There, I was exposed to incredible professors and learned the importance of tenacity and community alongside the skills that would help me to succeed in my field. I understand college can be expensive, but if you can find a way to go, I highly recommend it. I wouldn’t trade my HBCU experience for anything in the world. College allowed me to meet new people, experience life outside of my bubble in a new city, and gave me a lifelong network that has helped me get opportunities along the way.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My name is Eboni Price. I am a director, writer and founder of WillFilm4Food Entertainment. TV saved my life. I wouldn’t have found my way without it. Whenever I felt misunderstood, I would turn on the TV and get lost in what the Cosby’s were doing or look forward to living my teenage years like Moesha. Being a millennial growing up in Black America’s golden age of TV, I was privileged to see myself in many forms. It was not only my escape but my window into the world. That window closed, however, when Hollywood decided my image was no longer valuable. While diversity is back on the rise, TV still has a very low number of female leads. The number of Black women leads is even more disparaging. I am a Black millennial woman, educated at an HBCU, having lived in almost all major regions of this country. I find my perspective to be incredibly unique. My goal as a Black creator has always been to make a change and give the world a multi-faceted perspective on Black life; daring to take us outside of boxes riddled in stereotypes and into space, fantasy, and beyond. I am most proud of my ability to tell our stories authentically and to provide an inclusive space on all of my sets, professionally. WillFilm4Food Entertainment continually proves to be the exception to the rule. I have shot productions in which the entire crew, from pre-production to post, was Black and Brown. Hollywood tells us it can’t be done, and yet, we do it. Hollywood tells us Black productions are unprofessional and low budget, and yet we prove to provide quality with the resources we have. It has not been easy getting to where I am today. I have moved across country, alone, I have sacrificed a lot-sometimes selling possessions just to get my hands on a camera, I even had an experience where I spent 4 hours of the day traveling to be at work on time! Yet, even in the midst of trial, I managed to gain invaluable experiences. In these experiences, I learned the importance of tenacity, the value of faith and community, the benefit of treating your cast and crew like family (pro tip: stop feeding them fast food), and most importantly to never take “no” for an answer. I want the world to know that WillFilm4Food Entertainment is a company that makes the “impossible” possible, and so far, I think we’re doing a great job.
Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
I would take a friend to Santa Monica Pier to enjoy LA’s beautiful sunset, Leimert Park on Sunday to be around some beautiful Black people, Melrose to go hipster watching and take in some cool murals, The Dime, Treehouse, or EP & LP for a fun night out, Overland Cafe or Sal’s for brunch, and I don’t think you can skip out on Roscoes and Disneyland. Tourist musts.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to shout out my parents, Arthur and Candie Price, my family, every colleague who helped me get to my next step, my Howard University and AGC family, my Blaque Film School tribe, and every person I’ve met along the way during this crazy journey! I appreciate each and every one of you and look forward to the future!
