We had the good fortune of connecting with Adam Santana and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Adam, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
I think taking a risk is a very important step to learning. Without risk, you may never know what you are capable of. My passion for ART has been with me since a child. Growing up and not knowing where this will lead. You just have to go for it and see for yourself what will be down the road. As an artist, you take many risk. Your art work could be seen as offensive or something that is inspiring. You also may never know if anyone will even like your work. Over the years, I have taken many risk. Its has been well worth it. It has opened many doors and opportunities for me. I remember the time when I wanted to see if a store owner would show case my work in there store. I had seen other artist do it before. But I didn’t think my work was good enough, or I didn’t think I wasn’t prepared enough. So one day I when went to several of locations and I had no luck. Eventually the last location I went to said Yes!. Had I not taking the risk, I would not have my work displayed in a store. I think if your going to take a risk, just make sure its not something that will jeopardize all that you have worked hard for. Instead, chip away at it. Its hard by the yard, but a cinch by the inch.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I think my art work has it own style. I been inspired by other artist that are from the past. I’m about color. Color really gives people a feeling. Color has a big role on how people feel. Sometimes the work I create is very bright and sometimes its very dark. I think it has to do with a lot of what I’m feeling. I do put a lot of emotion in to my work. What I think separates me from others is, the variety of my work. I could be painting skulls and then painting flowers. I’m not only a painter, but I do also create other types of art. I work on 3D and 2D animation. I do graphic design and work on video. I also have experience with sculpting. Anything that has to do with art, I love to get my hands on. What I’m most proud of is that I have never stopped. I haven’t given up on what I love doing most. I’m excited for what the future holds for me. It’s always a surprise. You never know what the fruits of your labor are and more doors keep opening. After learning from my failures, I was still moving forward. I was more knowledgeable and more experience. I had became more sharp professionally. It was not easy at all. I had to learn the ropes. I spent a lot of time reading, working and creating. Building clientele, networking and making business friendships. What I have learned is that your work is one thing, but your presentation is another, Not only do sell your art, but you have to have a great presentation. I would like the world to be inspired. Inspire other young artist just starting. Let them know that anything is possible. You can achieve anything you want, just put your mind to it. The road to success is not a clear view, but it will be day by day.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I had a best friend coming from out of town visiting, I would first go to the beach. California has great beaches and the best weather. I would stop by the famous Neptunes Net. Maybe go down town and check out the stores. For the night life, I would take my friend to Copper Blues. Live music, good food and drinks.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to give a big shout out to my mentor, Anthony Sturmas. Without out his direction, I would not be where I am today. He opened my eyes to a bigger world and has inspired me to reach for the stars. Also the support of my friends and family. They have seen me grow over the years and were with me all the way through this journey.
