We had the good fortune of connecting with Caden Weatherly and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Caden, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind my success so far would be pushing myself to do things I didn’t think I was ready for. There have been so many projects where I am in over my head, but it forces me to learn new things immediately. I would encourage anyone who is creating a business to not turn down opportunity just because you don’t think you are ready. You’re a lot more capable than you let yourself think. This month I celebrated 1 year of my business, it has been the most unbelievable year I could have asked for. I have gotten so many opportunities that I never would have expected in just a year working. I went from having a part time job like every other 18 year old, to working full time for the entertainment industry, owning my own freelance photography and videography business, and just recently starting a clothing brand with some friends. All three of these things I would not have expected myself to be ready for as a 18/19 year old, but saying “yes” to opportunity and giving it my all plays a big part into where I am now.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
The reason I have gotten to where I am today is because of how hard I work. There’s a saying; “the amount of effort you put into something is directly related to what you will get out of it”. Putting hours into my business when all my friends/family are out having fun is really hard to do, but is something I have devoted myself to in order to create a better future for myself. I knew going into creating my business that the first two to three years of owning a business are the hardest, so I knew that I was going to have to work a lot more than I ever had before. How much I work now compared to a year ago, or two years ago has completely changed. Now, I work on my business after I clock out of 9 to 5, I work through the weekends and holidays, but I do make a little time here and there to take a break and be with friends and just have fun. Because of this my business and opportunities have progressed faster than I expected, but it has come at a cost. Being in a constant mindset of having to get work done does make it hard to sit down for long periods of time to just relax for a while, or to even do things like watch movies, or play a video games. Things that I enjoyed a lot before, but rarely do at all now. That said, I would never change my life back to when I could happily watch movies and play video games every day. Life now is such an exciting rollercoaster all the time, I feel like I could make a movie out of it!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I had to plan an itinerary for someone who’s never been in Santa Clarita, or any of LA County I would take them to a lot of outdoor destinations. I love being outdoors and exploring new places, so a lot of the places I would take a friend are outdoors. There are a few places that have awesome hikes leading to cliff jumping spots in Malibu, quite a few abandoned sites to explore everywhere, a lot of great beaches to surf, do some rock climbing all around Santa Clarita, and have bonfires at night hanging out with friends. For a place I would recommend could I add a restaurant called Padaro Beach Grill. They are super amazing, the food, and location is great. Right up against the beach, perfect to bring friends and family to, and the vibe is perfect for a fun beach day.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I love this idea of The Shoutout series. I have been thinking a lot lately about how many people I have to thank for where I am today. I have learned so many things from the most amazing people ever. Since day one I have had the best mentor I could ask for, Donovan Beck (@themindofsol). Donovan has and continues to teach me so much on our many coffee meetings, he invited me to film my first wedding video with him, we’ve worked on filming a music video, and have done some photoshoots together. The amount of business information I have learned from Donovan and the hands on experiences have been monumental in my business’ success. Two other people who have opened the door to possibilites for me are Joey Fredrick and Bryan Vale. Joey and Bryan are celebrity YouTubers from the YouTube channel called TeamEdge (6.8M Subs). Just 4 months after my graduation Joey reached out asking if I could come in and film two of their episodes that coming Friday. After that I started to film for them every week. This alone I am super grateful for. Hiring an 18 year old with less than a years experience behind a camera is a risk, but I am so grateful that Joey and TeamEdge took a chance with hiring me. Then four months after that, I started working full time as TeamEdge’s Director of Photography, Thumbnail Designer, and Membership Production Coordinator. I have learned so much every day working with these guys, it has really been a game changer for me and my future getting to be creative as my full time job making videos.
