We had the good fortune of connecting with Channing Hiraldo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Channing, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I’ve always been an artist ever since I was a young kid. Always drawing and painting at a higher level than my peers and to me it felt normal, but to others it was a gift. I went to school for art, but changed my major and pursued business. I worked in the corporate field for most of my working career and would occasionally have episodes of anxiety and other illnesses. Tests were done and the conclusion came down to it being caused by stress and not being happy. So I quickly chose my well being and quit working in the corporate world because at the end of it all, it’s no place for an artist. So, I started a new chapter and pursued and continue to pursue my life as an Artist. The struggles were intense and challenging but the outcome is amazing. I decided to change my life and never looked back. I wanted to pursue tattooing and get back into oil painting. I recently moved to Los Angeles to keep this dream going as a successful independent female tattoo artist/painter. Anyone can pursue their dreams you just have to work towards it and put your all because the only person stopping you is you!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have many forms of art I’m working on. With tattooing, I like to create custom designs for all my clients before our appointment. I do this by designing the tattoo and virtually placing it on the area my clients want tattooed with the photos they send me of the area. This helps foreshadow what the tattoo will look like when it’s done. My goal is for my clients to have the best tattoo experience and never regret the work they get from me. I also like to meet up with my clients to make sure we vibe well together. I honestly feel that tattoos can shift your energy field into a higher vibration. Tattoos go beyond skin deep they go soul deep!! Tattoos is a huge energy exchange between two beings. The ritual of wounding the skin and drawing blood releases intense energy that becomes part of the tattoo. Getting tattooed is a very intimate experience. It is a spiritual vehicle for transmitting energy, because an invisible cord attaches to my energy into yours. In a sense, tattooing is a magic ritual that creates images, draws blood, which is our life force, and also creates a symbolic bond between you and me. In a metaphysical perspective, tattoos are an energy portal into your subtle body, and starting out with unacceptable conditions can mark you with a negative charged tattoo that can cause a disturbance in your energy field. This is how I separate myself from my peers. I take this energy exchange very seriously and I always make sure I work on my happiness and conquering my goals. This wasn’t easy in the beginning there were numerous amounts of challenges and I felt like giving up plenty of times, but when I look back to how unhappy and depressed I was not creating art, it kicked me back to working even harder. I had to move across country just to work on myself and get away. I needed to show my friends and family that I can be a successful artist on my own. When it comes to my painting projects, I’m currently working on a few different painting series. One has to do with a mixture of the Fibonacci sequence and pineal gland “3rd eye”. I want to bring awareness to natures math sequence and how it represents many parts of the earth including humans and also bring awareness to our pineal gland. I feel the subconscious mind is very important to understand for our well being. I have another series that represents the most precious insect on earth and that to me is it’s the bee! Bee’s are so important for our ecosystem and I don’t feel people are aware of them dying at rapid rates. if the bees die all that we love will be gone and nature will die. Bees pollinate one third of our global food supply. They play a crucial part to our well being and I want to bring that awareness as much as I can and the only way I can is to make art to represent that.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I will definitely bring my friends to the awesome hiking trails California has to offer and there are so many to choose from and they are all amazing. I also love scenery and one of the main reasons I Moved to California was seeing the mountains and ocean together. I will bring them to the beautiful beaches California has to offer and watch the sunset. I live in DTLa so I’ll bring my friends to the Broad museum and other museums in the area.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to shout out my family for always supporting me in all my career choices. I’ve changed my career so many times to just come back to what I do best, and that’s being an artist. I really needed to figure things out for myself so no one really pushed me as much as I pushed myself. When I told people that I was going to become an artist full time I’ve felt doubt. So always believe in yourself so shout out to me!
