We had the good fortune of connecting with Chelsee Foster and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chelsee, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
I have a karaoke business that brings music communities together. I love seeing how different crowds flock to different locations to enjoy music with their friends. Pre-Covid, I had 3-4 accounts per week at different venues around Los Angeles. I relish bringing the joy of singing to private parties and special celebrations as well. Over the last couple years, I’ve developed loyal followers who show up at each place I host, and residency regulars who would come to their local bar to sing with us. My customers would come early to help carry my equipment, and stay late to help me break down. I’m blessed to say that I hardly consider it work. They took care of me with tips and drinks in return for a guaranteed good time. Marketing tactics and word of mouth brought more and more people, so the venues loved my service and the singing circle grew larger. I’m looking forward to contributing to the karaoke community again soon.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have a Bachelor’s in Music Business, and have consistently worked in the licensing industry since graduation. This sets me apart because as an artist, I have a much better understanding of the music business landscape. This has given me confidence and essential knowledge that I wouldn’t have had otherwise. It was not easy… I worked 4 jobs while going to college full time until I secured a position at Music Reports Inc. However, I’m very glad I stuck with it and overcame multiple obstacles along the way. I learned that hard work can get you just about anything, and passion is a good fuel to that fire. I’m excited to see where my music career takes me, as an artist and a business professional.

Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
Hike through Griffith Park to the Hollywood sign
Show at El Capitan, Walk of Fame and Ripply’s Believe it or Not
Beach! Venice of course, then bike ride (or roller blades for me) to Santa Monica Pier

Noho day: Eat at the Federal Bar and see a comedy show, then Karaoke at the Goodnite
Disneyland!
Ice skating and a walk down 3rd street Promenade
Clubbing at Boardner’s in Hollywood

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am grateful for so many people who have supported my dreams along the way. I owe most of my success to my Mom, who somehow kept me in the limelight as a single mother after I had to quit skating. I would also like to give a shoutout to Kevin Patterson, my high school choir teacher who has inspired me for years to keep things fun and chase my dreams. To those who have made a recent impact in my life: I would like to thank Christopher Levya and Dave Pierce for their continued assistance with my music career, as well as Dave Gibbs, Syd Norman’s Pourhouse, and Norwegian Cruise Lines for the epic Caribbean tour.
