One of my favorite quotes comes from Edward Yang, who wrote in Yi Yi (2000): “My uncle says we live three times as long since man invented movies. Movies give us twice what we get from daily life.” This quote resonates deeply with me because it captures the transformative power of cinema. One of my favorite quotes is, “I shall pass this way but once; any good that I can do or any kindness I can show to any human being; let me do it now. Let me not defer nor neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again.”

Now this is something I really love but at times struggle to apply. I can get so frustrated by the world around me, it leads me to live without compassion at times, but this quote puts things into perspective. It challenges me to step back and realize that no matter if you have a morning routine or a set schedule, no one day would or could be repeated the exact way. My favorite quote at the moment is, “Done first, perfection later.” I can’t recall exactly where I heard this, but it stuck with me during my undergraduate thesis project. “The world will constantly underestimate you. Let that be your superpower.”
I love this quote, because it reminds me to stay out of any kind of “victim mentality” when it comes to who I am as a person and what I am capable of. Or where I am in my career as a creative. My strength as a human comes from knowing myself thoroughly (always a work in progress). And my strengths as an actor, writer, producer comes from that knowledge within myself. In this business, you can be consistently boxed into one corner. Either people view you as an actor, a producer OR a writer – but not all of those things UNTIL they see some kind of merit of success they deem notable.
