We had the good fortune of connecting with Deborah Badillo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Deborah, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Truly believing in your brand and giving your customer an authentic, honest experience is what is important to me. Customers can see when you’re geniune and are able to differentiate between someone who’s clearly passionate and invested in their business and someone who’s just “doing a job”
What should our readers know about your business?
We are a little bridal shop that sells “sample + consignment” dresses “off the rack” we work with designers, cool bridal salons and showrooms to bring in sample dresses and offer them to our brides at a significant discount. We keep our assortment curated so that we can offer new, unique, less traditional + up and coming designers to our brides. We also carry a few consignment dresses that have been once worn but they also have to have the same characteristics as our sample dresses. I opened the shop 3 years ago because I didn’t love my wedding dress shopping experience, everything looked the same and I wanted a beautiful, unique dress at an affordable price. I envisioned a shop that carried all these great dresses that were used as samples together all in one place and that offered the same experience as shopping in a cool salon and it didn’t exist so I took al my savings, found a tiny shop and opened it. It was tough in the beginning because it was a new concept and designers and salons didn’t really want to work with me but I really believed in it and kept going and kept reaching out and slowly but surely it started to come together…I learned that if you really believe you have a great concept to not get discouraged and for every 10 no’s you get you may get the 1 yes that helps you!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
so lets hope they were visiting before we all went into lockdown !! We get a lot of family and friends who like to come visit us because we live at the beach! One of our favorite things to do is picnic lunch from Gelsons and a bottle of wine to take to the picnic tables at the montage and watch the sunset… We love to take visitors to the montage to walk the grounds and just take in all the beauty! We also like to take friends to 242 cafe fusion sushi here in Laguna Beach as its a food experience like no other, there’s always a wait for a table but when you do get in its such a treat, the food is presented like works of art and the taste is out of this world! The pageant of the masters and the sawdust festival are always fun places to visit too! Lastly, just walking around our downtown and visiting the cool art galleries is always on our list too
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Yes!!! my husband was there all along encouraging and supporting my dream….my mum was the inspiration and the name behind the shop…( she passed away just prior to my own wedding so this was a way for me to keep her name going and kinda feels like she’s right there with me as I get to say her name often)
