We had the good fortune of connecting with Dom Battle and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dom, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The thought process that went In to creating my business was that I needed something that was mine and that could make me money. Something that I could put my name on and say I did this on my own. Honestly at the time it didn’t matter what the business was as long as it came from me. I shortly realized that wasn’t gonna work. I tried many things but there was no passion behind, Therefore it didn’t go far. so i just stopped trying to create a business and just continued to create. I did things that I enjoyed, made my own clothes, and tried drawing things out that I wanted to make in the future. People close to me started asking me to do stuff for them too, or would say i could make money simply off doing what i was doing for free, So I did. I eventually gave it a name and could feel the pride of my initial intentions. The process of starting my business became less about any process and more about what I was passionate about. I gave everything I created 1000 percent of me and the customer and cash came on its own.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
So all of my best friends live here thank goodness because im a terrible tour guide lol. But I have friends all over who don’t visit often but when they do im down to take them out and about. So im a BIG Disney person, so the one place most people expect me to take them is Disneyland. Disney is expensive so I might not be taking that person but I will be accompanying them and showing them all around the parks from places to eat, rides to ride and dropping random Disney facts they whole time. Im also big on food so me and any friend are probably gonna eat our way through the week. Starting with my favorites; Donuts. We have Donut Friend in Highland Park and now Downtown LA my number one spot, for your out of this world donut combinations and not to mention they are vegan. Maybe a Donut burger from OhMyBurger in Gardena, when I tell yall that Lurther burger will have you singing like Vandross with every bite. And for something a little lighter then a Donut, we can keke and sip tea at Sip and Sonder in Inglewood or Hilltop in Inglewood as well, i love a good latte, and supporting a black business just makes it even sweeter. Im also a girl with southern roots who loves local southern food so through that we week we are definitely hitting Red’s Flavor Table, Comfort LA and one of my ultimate favorites BLAK HAUS LA. To say the least a week with me would look like a Disney Food tour with maybe a bike ride near the beach (from one restaurant to another lol)
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My contribution to the shout out series goes to a group I like to call my Mains. These 3 woman are all individual forces with amazing talents and brilliant ideas that can either change the world or the minds of the world. And together these woman have supported, loved and encouraged me and all of my gifts. MJ Freeman of P.U.S.H. EXPERIENCE LA, Starr Greenfield of Favor Fridays, and La Smith of LaSpeakVolumes.
