We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Antonio M. Harrison and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dr. Antonio M., what do you attribute your success to?
Consistency, discipline, and patience are the most important factors in any endeavor. Everyone has great ideas and everyone has the ability to execute those brilliant ideas. However, not everyone has the ability to be continue to work harder than the next person and wait patiently for their opportunity. If you can, you will be rewarded. It may not be today. It may not be tomorrow or 5 years from now. But it will come if you keep on working, adjusting, being creative, and reflecting on the process. The unseen work is where success lives, grows, and thrives. We live in a world of instant gratification which has extinguished many’s ability to wait for delayed gratification. You see people work on an idea for 2 weeks but when nothing happens and no one recognizes their work, they give up. You must be a warrior in this sense, training and waiting for a day that may never come but when it does, the warrior is prepared.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Business gurus will tell you that you need a particular niche to be successful. I disagree with this idea. The niche is YOU. I don’t have one particular thing I do. Rather I do as many things that interest me in the same sentiment. I want people to think. I want people to know thyself. I want to help people bring out their inner warrior and believe that they can do anything they desire. That’s why you will see I have 3 different podcast; Thank You. I Love You. I’m Sorry.or Bleav in Athlete Behavior, and 230 Dudes. I have coached High School Varsity football for over a decade. I am a fitness coach for a HIIT treadmill studio and fitness company. I am a coach in a new VR fitness service on Oculus called Supernatural created by Within Unlimited. I am a published author in both scientific peer-reviewed journals and mainstream periodicals, including currently working on a children’s book. I work with individuals, teams, and organizations on self-discipline, leadership, diversity & inclusion, parent training, and fitness. I provide guided meditations, free online workouts for adults, and a PE class for kids during the pandemic. My YouTube channel also has parent advice videos. I am an invited speaker all over the nation and will be speaking in Nigeria in 2021 (hopefully, with all that is going on). Most importantly, I focus on my family and what I can control in my life. The list goes on but the point remains the same. This is not to highlight that I am better or superior. I am no better than any other person on this planet. This is to highlight that while my mission and purpose are the same, the process and how I go about sharing that mission and purpose takes many forms, all which are uniquely me. This process was not easy and the journey never ends. That’s the great thing about it all. There is no final destination. Everything in life changes and is simply the next stop on your path. Whether growing up in a household where addiction gripped my Father and stressed my Mother; or a career ending injury in college football; or struggles with my identity as an adult, Father, and Husband myself, it all brought me where I am today. Your struggle is your story and your story is meant to be heard. Lastly, please know, I am not for everyone. As I like to say, “Some people need Dr. Phil and some need Dr. Antonio a.k.a Coach Doc.”
Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
I love this question. The first thing I would do for a guest who is new to my city is host a family and friends BBQ at my house. I love having BBQ’s, playing music, laughing and joking, making people feel welcomed like family in my home. I would try to get tickets to a concert at the best venue in Los Angeles, the Hollywood Bowl. If they love tacos like I do, I would bring them to my favorite spot, La Estrella in Pasadena. Any time someone visits Los Angeles for the first time, I always take the 110 Freeway home so they can experience the unique ride of the first freeway ever built in America. I would also take them on the train to Union Station to visit the culturally rich environment of Olvera Street. If they have never seen the ocean, we would have to hit up Venice Beach for the experience, or Santa Monica Pier for the fun, or Huntington Beach to get in the water. If possible, I would take them to a Lakers game at the Staples Center and walk them around downtown L.A.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are 3 groups that deserve much credit for my success. 1. Family & friends: My wife and 3 sons, as well as my parents, sister, and close friends have always given me the confidence, unconditional love, and support enhancing my knowledge of self and illuminating my belief in self. 2. Believers: Those who have crossed my path and believed in my abilities by providing support and opportunities for me to grow while challenging my every move in a way that makes me think. These are coaches, mentors, and strangers who saw in me what I may not have seen in myself. 3. Doubters: A big shoutout to all of the doubters that laughed at me, ridiculed my plans, or simply did not support my moves. I will forever be in debt. For you have provided the fire that burns deep down and partially drives my dreams to fruition.
