We had the good fortune of connecting with Elba Lomeli and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Elba, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind my success and my brand’s success is my commitment to quality. My commitment to quality is something that I live by personally and therefore is my biggest imperative when it comes to the products that make up my brand: ELBA Vegan Skin Care. From product concept all the way through to the connection with my customers, quality is the guiding principle. My brand is made up of natural products that provide results that you can see and feel. Our mission is to deliver your best skin with the highest quality non-toxic ingredients for results you can see. This in turn allows our customers to awaken their natural radiance, bringing on confidence and empowerment. This empowerment is key to the connection with our customers. Our customers are generally women that are looking to improve their self-care regiments and want to impart the feeling of well-being to their friends and family members. I love to spend time talking with my customers about their needs and their skin care routines. I want to make sure that their routine is tailored to their needs and yield the best results!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m a natural born entrepreneur with a love for all things self-care, especially skin care. But before skin care, I was focused on the clothing manufacturing industry. I directed several large-scale operations with several hundred associates in factory settings. My outreach was international across several countries with heavy focus in Asia. I had the opportunity to travel abroad to connect with suppliers and optimize cost structures. This type of operational focus gave me the opportunity to learn across many disciplines and expand my knowledgebase considerably. From human resources, to supplier management, there was lots to learn from both a management standpoint as well as day-to-day execution. I was very happy to be part of this world for 14+ plus years. Once I decided to leave the clothing industry, I was faced with finding a new journey. Surprisingly, the choice to pursue skin care came from dealing with a challenging and scary breast cancer scare in my family.
I met my sister-in-law when I was 12 years old and since then we have always been together. She supported me with my studies, she has always been proud of my achievements and supported me when I failed. When I had an accident in which I almost lost my hand, she supported me in everything and found the perfect surgeon so that I would not lose my hand. When she received her breast cancer diagnosis I was by her side, I will never forget it. It was September 19, 2017 at 4pm and at that moment without thinking I decided to support her in what was within my reach – especially by listening to all that the doctors told us about the treatment and reading all the side effects of her treatment. I started a search for skin care products to combat these chemical effects of the treatment and read all ingredients from different brands. That is when I started my own research on the benefits of natural ingredients and together with the advice of a professional in cosmetology, we started to develop two products initially. It was never my intention to sell my products, but by giving samples to family and friends, and receiving such great feedback, I realized that there was a greater market for my products. I recognized that the benefits of my products could be well received by those seeking a natural alternative. So, ELBA Vegan Skin Care was born.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Southern California is filled with great entertainment for everyone. When entertaining out of town visitors, it’s always great to have good food and great ambiance. For this, I usually suggest Bottega Louie in downtown Los Angeles. And if we’re making the trip to DTLA, it’s the perfect opportunity to visit one of the Getty museums or even the Grammy museum. Once the museums have been covered, there can be a visit to Disneyland or at minimum Downtown Disney. And since we’re back in Orange County (where I currently live), a great walk along the beach in Laguna Beach can also be a highlight. Laguna Beach is filled with amazing restaurants and entertainment, but I always default to the lobby at the Montage Resort for an amazing view of the Pacific Ocean and nice entertainment on the weekends, especially around Christmas time. A drive up the coast is also amazing, with Santa Barbara as a destination. The amazing view of the ocean makes the trip seem very short! There is lots to enjoy in Santa Barbara, especially around 4th of July.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Friends, family and colleagues! Without them, it would be impossible to be found is such a vast sea of brands and products. My friends and family support all my social media posts with likes, shares and comments. My ‘behind the scenes’ support is my cousin Lorenia who helps run my website, manages orders and basically keeps everything running for ELBA Vegan Skin Care. Lorenia is a professional of 20+ years that is my sidekick for all things, including travel and fun. We usually attend all pop events together and get to meet so many customers and colleagues in person. Speaking of colleagues — they are best! Colleagues always reach out with new opportunities! Colleagues invite me to pop-up events where inevitably, there is the opportunity not just to find new customers, but to expand the network. In particular, I can mention Christina Brophy from The Women’s Empowerment Network & weknowagirl.com and the whole crew at #WeAllGrow Latina Network.
