We had the good fortune of connecting with Jonathan Winbush and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jonathan, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I’ve worked at a ton of studios over my career from large movie studios to smaller boutiques and no matter where I was at there was limited room for growth. I’ve enjoyed more of the places I’ve worked at but as an artist, I always strive to grow as far as I can so working for myself allows me to keep pushing my limits and allows me unlimited growth. Plus a major part of working at studios includes long hours which was taking away from me being able to watch my kids grow up since I wasn’t home a lot.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I made my start working under the Happy Madison umbrella in their motion graphics company at the time where I was able to work on everything from designing and animating Blu-Ray / DVD menus to working on movie / television title sequences. After I left there I freelanced around L.A. for a few years then ended up taking a full time gig at Warner bros where I stayed for another 3-4 years before I branched off and started my own business called Winbush Immersive. I feel like I set myself apart because I’m never afraid to jump into new mediums of art and I don’t shy away from new tech I embrace it. When everyone said Virtual Reality was only for gaming I created 2 multi award-winning VR Music videos that went on to be showcased at Cannes Film Festival. A lot of people tell me I’m lucky for having the career I’ve had and I don’t really believe in luck but I do believe in hard work and grind. If anything I worked hard to put myself in a position to be able to be lucky and be able to hop on opportunities that presented themselves. The biggest lesson I’ve learned overall is to try to stay humble, make goals for yourself, and just keep working hard for what you believe you will accomplish and you’ll be amazed at what might happen.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m in the OC so there’s a lot to do. I go hang out at a lot of the various beaches here in the area and then for fun I like to roll out to the Irvine Spectrum Center to meet with friends for lunch especially at the BBQ joint there. Then if your a gamer or even just want to watch a sporting event the Dave n Busters there is always a good place to blow away a few hours. Then in Laguna Beach there’s a ton of great hiking trails with ocean views that can easily take a day to do.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First and foremost I have to give all the credit to my wife and kids that never questioned any of my decisions and have trusted me in every step of my journey. I know some of my career choices have been risky but I trusted in my instinct and we made it out fine lol
