We had the good fortune of connecting with Karishma Patel and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Karishma, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
At first I was just blogging for fun, but as time went by I really wanted to help spread positivity because we could all use some of that. I always wanted to reach out to people at a broader level and I finally can through my clothing. I wanted to have positive messages on the clothing that I sell so that when people read it, they feel happy. With so much happening in the world, I want to be able to help put some smiles on faces. Even if it’s just one person, I feel like I’ve done my job. I want to keep spreading positivity and keep letting people know that it’s okay to be yourself and it’s okay to love yourself. So, I took the leap and spent all my savings to start my small business, I’ve never been happier!! I love doing what I do.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I got to where I am today by pushing through all my negative thoughts and by just going for what I want. Once I realized that I needed to do something that made me happy, that’s when I started changing my life around. I stopped doing things for everyone else and kept doing things for me. It was definitely a challenge to overcome because I’ve been so used to doing what I was told to do. It takes time, but with time you start realizing whose happiness is the most important. I started my brand as a little fitness journey that people can follow along, never thought I would turn that into a business where I get to spread positivity and love so, don’t give up. Especially if you think people are going to talk about you, you have to keep going because no matter what you do, someone will ALWAYS have something to say!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take them everywhere!! I grew up in Cerritos and went to college at CSULB so, I would start by taking them to Long Beach. Go to the beach, get some brunch at Claire’s at the Museum, then would take them to Ballast Point to have some drinks with a view, then head to 2nd st where all the bars are and do some drinking. I would also take them to get in a bomb workout at FYT gym, which is right next to Long Beach. Then we would go off and explore in LA, of course we would get in a hike to the Hollywood sign, if we don’t do that then you didn’t really visit LA right?! There are so many places I’d still like to try in LA, but would go out and check out the nightlife in downtown LA. I love going to the Standard to play some ping pong and grab some drinks, then head to the bars surrounding that area. It’s been a while since I’ve been out so, I don’t even know what are the hotspots but this is somewhat of what I’d do!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Yes, someone very close to my heart inspired me to spread positivity and that person was my grandpa. He passed away two years ago, but before he passed, he would always tell me that the secret to live a long life is to laugh every day and to love more. I spent 24 years of my life under the same roof with him so he had a huge impact on my life and the way I was brought up. I know that he’s with me in spirit and is very proud of me! Another huge shoutout goes to my wonderful fiancé who supported me and pushed me to start my own business. If it weren’t for him, I wouldn’t have had to courage to start my own business. I am beyond grateful for him and everyone in my life for supporting me.
