We had the good fortune of connecting with Kevin Palencia and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kevin, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
As a young boy, I loved playing video games and having people watch me beat a level or just be the best one in the game. All my life I loved being competitive and being the best out of everyone I would come against. I’m glad I went through that phase in life because living in the world we currently live in right now everything is a competition. I do my best to one-up the person next to me or the person in front of me. Pursuing this creative career of Visual Effects and being a content creator/streamer on youtube takes a lot of competition and lashes back but “you have to be able to take the hits and keep moving forward” – Rocky Balboa. The reason I do what I do is that I love to be able to reach out to all people around the world. Something about being able to make people feel happy, smile, laugh and enjoy themselves after watching one of my videos or streams is that something that pushes me forward to do what I do and love it. Because when you do something you love, you never work a day in your life.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Professionally what I do is Digital Compositing for commercials, movies, music videos, etc… Digital Compositing is what I studied for 3 years and graduated at The Los Angels Film School. Being a student in that school shaped the person that I currently am right now. As an Artist, I create videos on YouTube and stream video games. The process of doing all of this let me tell you it was hard. You are always going to have people supporting you and people that won’t support you but you have to be able to keep pushing forward and follow your heart and dreams. I learned a lot on the way to where I currently am right now. You tend to find out a lot about yourself when you start being your true self. The way you are able to tell what work is mine and what sets me apart from other artists is that I always go for a retro wave style with a mix of modern. KP Legendz is the name of my Youtube brand and I focus on bringing high-quality gaming with a mix of Visual Effects in the videos.
Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
If my best friend was visiting I would take him to this Bar arcade. This place is called Player one located in North Hollywood. This place is a Bar and Arcade which is a bonus because my best friend loves playing video games just like I do. We would then grab some pizza and head over to my house and play some Fifa which is always a must when we see each other. A lot of my life is revolved around video games haha.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Well, a lot of my success and effort of pushing the person that I am today has to do a lot with my family, my girlfriend, and friends from school Jason Berger Aka Redragon Jason and Javier De Leon. The day I started school I was very timid and introvert but man these two pushed me to be the confident guy that I am right now. A lot of my thanks and appreciation goes out to them. These two were my friends at the beginning of school and we also started at the same time in school. Another person that had an impact in my career is my girlfriend Katherine Pleitez who also has her own business you guys should check her out on Instagram @Katpleitez. She pushed me to do things I never thought I would do like for example a podcast… I never thought that I would have my podcast and bring in people to interview them and talk about there story. Not only did she push me but she supported me and always had my back and I love her for that. There is no better feeling than having your loved one support you for who you are and what you love doing.
