We had the good fortune of connecting with Koko Hayashi and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Koko, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
When I was 27, I had a plastic surgery failure. I had a chin implant to make it a bit pointy, the chin got asymmetrical, so had the implant removed, but then it stays asymmetrical since then. That’s when I realized that I should have pursued natural solutions such as face yoga. This experience made me start face yoga exercises on a regular basis, as in Japan where I was at that time, face yoga is a common practice for beauty conscious people. I started seeing good result on mine, so started teaching on youtube and got certified to teach 3 years in Japan.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Face yoga is a great natural solution to regain your youthful appearance. We wake up sleeping muscles in the face to lift up the skin and relax over-working muscles for wrinkle reduction. It is not commonly known in the States yet, but there are some other face yoga businesses in the world. The differences of ours from others is that our teaching style is the most entertaining and educational at the same time. Since stay at home order is placed, we focused on youtube to help people learn something at home. As a result, our youtube channel has been receiving the most traffic in the industry. Also we are the most technology driven among peers. We offer face yoga app with AI applied guidance and AI Koko to answer questions on our site. We keep trying new projects to learn. There are many failures but we make mistakes to learn, which is necessary.
Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
My favorite spot is downtown Los Angeles. As I take walking lesson to learn how to walk properly, I love taking a long walk there. Little Tokyo is obviously my favorite as well, as I am Japanese. Whenever I miss Japan, I go to Japanese restaurants there.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am lucky to be around so many great mentors. When I was preparing for “Shark Tank” appearance in 2019, the learning experience from “San Diego Angele Conference” was so valuable. Mysty at the organization hosts useful lectures for entrepreneurs on a weekly basis, and I commuted to San Diego all the way from Los Angeles often! (I have other business in San Diego, but tried to choose the class date on purpose.) Also, I have many face exercise masters i Japan that I learned a lol from and ask questions.
