We had the good fortune of connecting with Lauren Edwards and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lauren, we’d love to start by asking you about lessons learned. Is there a lesson you can share with us?
Courage. On so many different occasions I have been not just scared but TERRIFIED. whether it be taking on a new cake design or moving across the country to bake, I have built so much courage and overcame a lot of fears while building and maintaining CakeFace.
What should our readers know about your business?
Starting CakeFace Cupcakes wasn’t exactly expected. I didn’t initially sit down and say i’m going to start a baking business, it was something that I did out of love and as a hobby that eventually turned into being a business for me. When I got to a point where I was taking on more orders than I could handle I eventually decided to take the plunge and commit fully to forming an official brand. I learned that there are no cheat codes, there are no quick-ways to be successful, some times you fo have to start from the very bottom and build your way up.
Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
For sure the Santa Monica Pier, I know its super touristy but I love it there, gives me great carnival vibes. I’d also say lets go to the Village of Topanga its super cute and nice to walk around and visit the shops Also Jeni’s Ice Cream in Calabasas is one of my NEW favorites!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mom for sure! She is the reason I began baking in the first place
