Meet A.b. Smith | Writing Duo

We had the good fortune of connecting with A.b. Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi A.B., we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
Taking a risk can build your tolerance, your expectations, and can even influence your faith. However, risk taking does require effective and critical thinking. Not all leaps are righteous. This is why it’s important to evaluate possible benefits and potential threats. Overall, we believe healthy risk taking is vital to your personal and professional life.
With over 25 years of Entertainment experience, and now being married for 9 year, we can say without a shadow of a doubt that taking a divine risk has consistently been the catalyst to our success, our growth, and our testimony. The key word in testimony is “test”. Taking a risk is like taking a test. The more you’re prepared, the better the results. Whether in times of difficulty, or times of triumph, when you take a healthy risk, you’ll discover new heights and birth new awarenesses.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
A.B. Smith is our writing duo pen name. Our government names (and artist names) are Brittany Scott Smith (Director/Producer) and Arjay Smith (Actor). Via A.B. Smith, we recently released our first children’s book entitled, “Wes & Morris Meet Mr. Buck”. As of 2024, we officially became Authors, and that has been extremely rewarding.
The inspiration to write children’s books came from our two kids. Parenthood is definitely our greatest and most challenging accomplishment. Creating art isn’t hard (at least not for an artist), but choosing to live life (and not give up) can be extremely difficult. Having a positive outlook takes effort. Fortunately, we’ve discovered that when you strive to be a go-getter and endeavor to live life, your art will find its purpose. Inspiration is all around us…people just have to consciously choose to pay attention. Worthwhile achievements are never easy (whether personal or professional), but we’ve discovered our God given talents are not hard to execute as long as we stay tapped into our spiritual wherewithal…aka, the purpose and calling over our lives.
For a period of time we lived on West St. and Morris St. in New York City, and that’s how our brand “Wes & Morris” was birthed. We believe children’s literacy in America is under attack, and it’s our goal to encourage education, inspiration, exploration, and positivity. Edutainment is a big proponent of A.B. Smith. The recipe of our book success will be the same recipe we have used for the success of our Directing, Producing, and Acting careers: rejection is inevitable, so never give up, stay inspired, encourage your soul, discover your gifts and cultivate your talents.
Summer 2025 we will be releasing “Wes & Morris Meet Passport Pat”.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
LA has so many amazing places to explore, but for a first-timer we have the itinerary to hit all the quintessential LA places.
First, we’d take them on a hike up Runyon Canyon, where on a clear day LA looks like a postcard.
After the hike, we’d head over to the classic LA establishment Roscoe’s Chicken and Waffles, for the “Obama Special” with a side of grits.
Then we’d head to SoFi stadium to check out a game.
Then travel to LACMA to listen to Jazz or a concert at The Hollywood Bowl.
The trip would conclude with a late night stop at In-n-Out, with a double double animal style and fries.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
As SoCal natives, we definitely want to give a shoutout to the 80’s & 90’s Los Angeles era. California provided us the strength and courage to think big. We are grateful for our family and friends who have supported us along our journey, and watched us persevere through good and hard times. “C.A. All Day”
